If Superchips would make a commitment on making the 1805 a better unit with features that the SCT has I might be willing to keep it but they really need to offer those very same tunes with exhaust braking, torque converter lockup and shut off option for the egr valve operation. I don't need head raising horsepower but a little tire smokin' ain't bad.

Come on Ron, give us some hope.
Those were my exact reasons...I didn't want more power. The truck shifts so much better now and it would be a huge leap if SuperChips would get the Flashpaq custom tunes moving along better. One thing that I did like about the FlashPaq was that it was going to be able to tune two different vehicles from one tuner from what I was told. I don't know if it was done or not. The SCT coudn't do this because they are severely limited on memory, but they are looking to make some changes soon also.
I put a lot of time and money in with SuperChips, but they just were not moving along quick enough and I kept getting different answers. I'm sure the FlashPaq launch was a huge time consumer and I'm sure they will catch up eventually.
SCT has been offering custom tuning for a long time now. You can have them setup a "JakeBrake" for towing, turn off the EGR, lockup the torque converter at certain rpm's, etc...
SuperChips has been in business the longest, but neither is a knockoff. One was developed for different purposes. .
An accurate statement, and probably the best way to put it.
Superchips Inc actually did custom tuning for a long time (over 10 years), but most of it was gassers, and 7.3's.
By the time the 6.0 came out and was being actively tuned, SCT was formed and the two separate companies assumed separate roles.
I have a 2005 SD F350 with the Flashpaq in towsafe mode, otherwise stock. I was towing up 6% grades with 110 deg inlet temperatures. I wasn't pushing the truck to hard, but a moderate 3000 rpm. The Engine temp went in to a overtemp condition. I backed off to the point to barely creeping up the hill. The temp came down, but if I tried to excell, it would over temp again. I then put the stock program back in and continued the trip, again up 6% grades. The truck never overheated once. What's up with that? Would an exhaust help this problem? Thanks.
Definitely an exhaust...That's the first thing I believe in on any stock PSD especially with a tuner. Getting that hot air out of the engine will help. MBRP 4" TurboBack Stainless will cost you about $600 installed. Just don't get sold on buying an airbox the stock works just as well or better than the aftermarket.
Where are you located? With 110F inlet temps it will cause you some grief pulling that kind of weight. I just got back from a trip to Arizona and I had some really high inlet temps even @ 3500alt.(heli pilot). I was lucky to be in an aircraft that I could keep climbing to get into colder air. On the ground will catch some really nasty temps off the concrete/ashphalt.
Are you running any Additives like DieselKleen or StanadnyePerformance?
Yep....I'm in Arizona. No additives. I used to run Dieselkleen, but then just stopped when it became a chor to always have it on hand. I've thought about going back to running some sort of additive.
I would especially now with USLD coming out full time next month. I've always rund the StanadynePerformance because FORD rebottles it and have endorsed Stanadyne for years. The DieselKleen will work fine. The Grey bottle give the best cetane increase.
Also...Have you updated your FlashPaq lately online?
I have never updated the flashpaq online. From what I can see, there are no updates needed...only if I want to record my speeds and times. Am I missing something?
Yes thats the way they provide updated strategy info to you tuner for your truck. The other is just secondary.
Tim...I've always burned Stanadyne in all of my PSD's because I've seen the insides of the fuel systems in these engines with and without. I was amazed how well it works. It's a little more than the Diesel Kleen, but I know it works. Cheaper now since I got the Transflow tank.
