Thanks for the help Vic, I was curious if it might be a "learn sensitive" issue that would go away with more WOT runs. I'll run her a few more times this week and let you know if/when it gets better.
Mine did it once, first WOT merge I did, hasn't happened since. I think its a learning thing too.

Yeah.
I programmed them for as quick of a learn as possible.
Sometimes you have to whack it a couple times.
The PCM calculates acceleration rate to anticipate shifting (among many other shifting related tables)
Sometimes, the first couple times it goes "Oh crap, what is THAT!", and it immediately adapts to the new programmed strategy.
Vic, I have an 03 6.0 with the SCMT and love it!
A good buddy of mine just picked up an 05 6.0 PSD and wants to get one but the dealer here in town told him they now can tell if a tuner has been on truck, any truth to this?
I just had my 04 (late 03 build) 6.0 reflashed, and now I can't get my 1704 to reload anything, that worked fine on it before. The SCMT flashed that I should call SC with a code it gave me, but I didn't have anything to write with, so I didn't get down. Just wondering if anyone else had this problem, and maybe to warn others of reflashing their trucks. I will post later with what I find out, and the code numbers

Call SC they can can take care of it, you will need to send it back, and it will not take long at all.
Now that I think about it, it makes since because the SCMT thinks that it is a different truck, I guess I will have to be content with just sending the ricers back home in shame instead of making them break down and cry...
Got my tuner Friday and installed the High Perf program yesterday. Other than the tune its completely a stock '05 F250 CC SB FX4. Didn't really get to take it out and run it until today though, all I can say is "Freakin' Amazing!" I had no idea that something that is as big and heavy as my truck can move like that! On the first chance to floor it from a dead stop I asked my wife to time the 0-60 from the passenger seat - it got to 60 before she could stop the stopwatch. I'm going to have to take this to a track here in town after I get an exhaust. I was wondering a couple things that someone here could probably answer (Vic?)
1. While I really don't mind the HUGE clouds of black smoke spewing out of the tailpipe when I go 1/2 or full throttle, is there a way to tone it down without giving up the HP tune? Or is this a necessary side effect of the tune? People in convertibles will LOVE that this coming summer...
2. What did the SCT change in the truck to give it so much more power? Can anyone provide details?
3. As mentioned the truck is all stock, except for the tune. Is it really OK to leave it this way without a pyrometer and exhaust upgrade as long as I'm not towing?
4. It gets over 100 degrees here in summer - does the ambient temperature affect the EGTs? Meaning should I lower the tune (other than HP) when it gets that hot out, since I have no pyrometer or exhaust upgrade?
Thanks, and I can't stress how impressed I am with this tuner!

1. Keep your foot out of it you can still out accelerate the stock tune in HP mode without the smoke, but it is funner to the floor
2. SCT changed nothing SCMT did, they are two different companies. There are a number of things involved, here are a few I know but there are more, injection timing, injection pulse width (lenth of time injector is open), turbo pitch.
3. I would not reccomend not having boost and pyrometer, but it is up to you as long as you follow the tuners directions I don't think you will see excessive EGT, although I have had mine to 1400 degrees on a long WOT run with the truck empty.
4. Yes the ambient temp will have an effect on EGT I wouldn't take the HP tune out when it is hot, but as I stated above I would recomend guages.
I didn't have my tuner yet when I did my exhaust, but did have guages and I saw about 150-200 degree drop in temp with the 4".
Hey Vic, I got 4.30's in my truck now they are great. No change in mileage on the highway I still get 18mpg, so I would be willing to bet I seen a gain when towing.

The 1704 and 1704-a are not made by SCT.
They are made by Superchips Inc.
Some of the initial research done by each individual company was shared, but Superchips Inc makes the 1704 and both remain separate companies.
If you don't want the smoke, you'll have to give up some of the power.
The Econ smokes almost none and tow doesn't smoke at all.
I could provide details on how it makes the power, but I won't
It's safe and reasonable, and that what needs to be told =o)
You do not NEED a pyrometer, but I recommend any diesel truck (stock or modified) have a pyrometer.
..It's like getting that extra insurance on the rental car, a good idea.

It doesn't think it's a different truck, it simply sees the truck has new files that are not a part of the tuned database.
They must be tuned, compiled and added to the database.
Typically, you can unload the tune from one truck and tune another (as long as the files are recognized), just not both at the same time =o)
Ah, I see now. SC said that it might a few days B/C they might not have the newest flash on hand; I have to say that I don't think that I could ever go back to not having the SCMT for more than a few days... Great product for a great truck<O</O
I bought one of these some time back, so I have some experience with it. It was awesome at first to see the truck lite up the rear (both tires as I have limited slip). But I didn't like the way it shifted. It clunked into place hard. It was really noticeable. Also, beware, just giving it more power without other mods can be dangerous to your engine, turbo, etc. You need to give it more air, and a way to get the heat out faster. Consider an AIRAID or other hi-flow air intake system and a larger exhaust. 4" is typical, but I just put a Bully Dog 5" on mine. Note also, before returing your truck for service to the dealer, you should return the truck to it's stock setting. This too is a pain all the time. I ended up returning mine and going a different route. I just installed the EDGE kit, power juice and everything. Put the 5" exhaust and AIRAID in, then lifted it 4" and went from 18 in. to 20 in. wheels with 35 in. TOYO mud tires. Now it's a truck!!! Having done this, I see the importance of the air intake and exhaust. With the increase in power, the EGTs go way up, and much much faster. The Edge kit monitors everything and has safety features built in...so if you push it too hard, it backs off to protect your turbo...at least to some degree...there are no guarantees. That's the other thing...make sure you install guages to monitor the EGT and Boost if you just re-program the chip yourself. The turbo blades will start to glow around 1250 degrees...and with this amount of HP it's easy to hit that mark.
