Not only that, it was also optimized as are the non-tow/haul shift tables.
It'll still be all sortsta fun at WOT, but still have all of the engine braking of T/H mode.

Call superchips for an RA number.
They will cover next day shipping BOTH WAYS to get the tuner updated and back to you asap.
This will cost you nothing.
Be patient, when you get it back it is so worth it.

Hey Vic, I just got my truck re-flashed about a month ago. I am looking at ordering a 1704-A today from Motorhaven. I have a 04 6.0. Do you think the 1704-A will be preprogrammed with whatever Ford updated my computer with or not? There is no sticker, so I don't know what the code is. I just know they reprogrammed it about a month ago, and recalibrated for my 315 tires. Please let me know what you think, should the 1704-A work out of the box?

It should, but if it doesn't, it will be handled at no cost to you in overnight fashion. If it was created after the tuner was put on the shelf, it will need to be added to the database.

If you want to be SURE, let me know your calibration code.

How do I know what my calibration code is, or how do I locate it? Also, thanks for the quick reply.

You can either ask your dealer what it is (some will tell, some will not) or you can read it with an NGS+ (Rotunda) scanner or similar.

If you are unable to read it, the tuner will display the hex codes if they are not part of the database.

Thanks, I decided to just go for it, I ordered my 1704-A about an hour ago and am having it shipped overnight.

I just got through installing my tuner and taking it for a test drive. I installed the high perfomance mode. It was pretty impressive. I will have to play with it more after work. My engine was cold so I couldn't play too much. I did hammer it though at about 15mph and I lit up the back tires (315 Buckshots) and shot out a big cloud of black smoke. I was impressed with the user friendliness of the product. I plan to keep it on perfomance mode, since I don't pull heavy trailers very much. I usually pull no more than 2 jet skis or 2 large 4x4 ATV's. If I pull anything heavier than that I'll probably adjust the mode accordingly.

Vic, can you tell me if this tuner will read diagnostics for all Ford vehicles, i.e. my 2001 Crown Vic PI? Or will it only read on the 6.0.

It will read diagnostics on Ford vehicle with a "CAN" flash.
In other words, the newer "oak" type PCM....04 F150, 04 explorer, some 05 cars, etc...
The crown vic was still an EEC-5, which speaks "SCP" (you could consider it 'the old lanuage'), so the 1704 tuner can not read codes on it.

I just installed SCMT 1704-A on my 05 Dually today. I first tryed tow safe mode and it was "just ok". Next I tryed the hi performance and it was "aok". My question is now the trans takes about 3-5 seconds to engage, forward or reverse. This started only in hi performance mode. Do I need to send this back to Superchips?

Never seen that before...

If it doesn't go away, remove the program and try reinstalling it.
If it still doesn't go away, call superchips.

BTW, the tow progam shines best under load, it makes a ton more power when you are actually pulling a trailer.

The newest flashes from ford for the 04's and 05's have this in the factory flash. My 04 started it right after it was reflashed with the newest calibration.

They do this to prevent retaining snap ring failures that have been an issue with the 05's now. The jerky forward-to-reverse and vice/versa movements are HARD on the snap ring due to the way it is designed (the ring actually has indexing tabs- jerky movement can shatter the tabs off). The pause is a GOOD thing as long as you dont feel it slipping AFTER the gear engages (this is a sign of transmission failure). If it engages crisply, and does not slip directly after engagement, don't worry about it.

You don't want to be rolling in these trucks when going from forward/reverse like you can get away with in other vehicles. Make sure you are completely stopped before shifting.

I believe you are correct, sir.

Naturally,it wouldn't make send for the tuned file to cause it because nothing is changed in terms of manual shift selection.

I can see problems arising with this pause, though.

What if impatient people whack the throttle while waiting for it to engage?

Boom!

I could be wrong, but from what I can tell, I don't think it will engage at all unless the TPS is below 150 or so...

Like I said, I could be wrong- I certainly wouldn't try it at WOT. That would break something in a heartbeat. I would HOPE noone would be stupid enough to do it, though
