Oh ok I gotcha. I guess the saying is true that you are "never too old to learn something new" So what do you guys think about the "Hutch Mod"? And the neighbors's fence is really ugly!!
People are still doing this mod today for a reason.
First mod(s) I did to my truck shortly after purchase:
1. Changed all fluids
2. Hutch and Harpoon mod
Plenty of ways to skin that cat. I went with a kit as I was new to the 7.3L game back then so wasn't overly confident in my ability to piece it together on the first try.
Neighbors fence is definitely an eyesore, but neighbors are generally big contributors to things you don't care to see or hear. The property looks beautiful other than that though!
Well done on the home improvement projects.
As for the hutch and harpoon (H/H) mod, I am a big proponent of them. No more diesel spewing out if the fill neck, I can fill the tank completely full, external filter and generally quieter engine running experience.
Below is a link to my own personal adventure with the H/H mods.
Yeah guys I will definitely be doing the H/H mod after I finish the top end upgrade on the 7.3 and I appreciate all of the links on how to do the mod. There is a POA covenants that states that all the foundations should have a facade and a privy should be no higher than 5' but I don't want to be THAT GUY!!!! if you know what I mean......

The Hutch and Harpoon are two of the best bang for you buck mods out there.
I had a noticeable difference in injector noise after the Hutch (reduced air I assume). The wife mentioned that the truck was quieter, so it wasn’t just me.
The Harpoon mod is great. Almost worth dropping the tank just for it. Tank is fully full and no gurgles and burps.
SSJ would disagree with my Hutch method. I used a hybrid version of his but retained my pickup foot (I know, it will eventually break off). I wanted to have the wide screen to prevent something sucking up and blocking the inlet pipe. But I did stick the pipe low enough inside the foot so if it does break I won’t necessarily “need” to go back into the tank. It will still pickup from close to the bottom of tank.
I’m used to people not taking my advice. It’s just usually not people as smart as you!!
Im kidding!! Nothing wrong with what you did. I just don’t find stuff in the tank that could plug up the pickup - except the failed umbrella pieces. Actually, very seldom does anyone even need to change the WIX 33972.
I never had a problem with my pickup tube getting clogged in the 10+ years and ~180K miles I had it installed.
I don't live/fill-up in rural areas so the few stations around me with #2 don't have an issue with the tanks settling as all the construction guys fill up at those stations too.
I did eventually convert from the spin-on pre-filter to the serviceable Racor PS 120-02 (there was nothing wrong with the setup, I did it for personal reasons). Other than that it was as installed for over a decade with no issues.
