I'm down to the hair splitting phase of mock-up. There's several little tasks left to do. Make a dipstick bracket, make up a -6 AN fuel line, etc.. With all this tropical storm rain, I'm not getting any field work done, so maybe I can have the engine completed and mounted on the test stand this weekend.
I noticed a fuel filter on a PCV line in this thread not long ago: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...00-issues.html It's such a simple and great idea, I'm surprised I've never seen that before, or thought of it myself. Anyway, I whipped one up. This will probably be the new norm for my carbureted vehicles. Thanks for the idea.
Hadn't heard from you in awhile was about to call my buddies in the Cajun navy
I've been a little busy busting ground, and the occasional bone and artery. If you're gonna send the Cajun Navy, tell them to stock the galley before they come. I'm hungry!
I disassembled the mocked up parts and reassembled with gaskets and torque. Had a hell of a time with the intake manifold. I did mock it up, but failed to install every bolt. Won't make that mistake again. Some of the bolts didn't line up perfectly. I removed the intake manifold twice. It was a major cuss fest, but I finally got it squared away. The RTV got a little messy during that goat rodeo.
Lifting a heavy big block using a carburetor flange plate kinda scares me, so I bought some stainless steel motorcycle tie-down tabs, and installed them on all four corners of the intake manifold. That should make for safe lifting, and they look kinda cool on the engine.
I installed the new 800 cfm carburetor. Made up a braided stainless steel fuel hose with -6 AN fittings. I've never messed with AN fittings before, and was pleased at how easy it was. If it doesn't leak, I'll love it.
You can see my reflection on the valve cover breather in the last pic. I look fabulous!
I like the lifting point idea. And yes it does look like Helen Keller with Ray Charles as an assistante put that RTV on there. Great googly moogly. Lol Some one has to keep you in check. Check check, mike check is this thing even on? Your thread needs some jockaluraity, all this seriousness is killing my beer buzz.
slick on the pvc,be nice to see how that works.,,,beleive it or not lifting plate with tranny installed,a couple times,,,,,,made sure no slack in bolts,,,,,

I have an old 14" air cleaner that sits on the carburetor when I'm not working on it. When I install the engine I'll probably use the same goofy looking dual snorkle that's on the 400. That thing was kind of a joke between myself and a friend. But the joke was on us, when we saw the A/FR gauge lean out so much that I had to retune the carburetor. I opted to keep it since it flows more air than anything else I've used.
You want jocularity? Then stop by this afternoon and watch me clean up the mess from last nights intake manifold party.

That PCV line filter wasn't my idea. I saw it on another FTE thread. The principle is sound. It should trap some of the oil vapor that would otherwise end up in the intake manifold. But we all know I did it cause it looks cool.
Yeah, I know that lifting by the carburetor flange is ok. Done it many times. But the mental recording of me lifting that fully dressed stock 460 out of my truck kept popping up. It was almost like lifting a 5.9L Cummins. Yes, the engine is significantly lighter now, with headers, and aluminum heads, intake, & water pump. But it's still heavy. I just feel more comfy lifting with four 3/8" bolts that are spaced out across the top of the engine, rather than four 1/4" bolts that are within a few inches of each other. And like the PCV filter, it was an opportunity do some creative stuff.

If must not of been to much of a hoot, I did not get a disco ball video at 03 hundred this AM...... with Free Bird playing in the background. Your initial pre start up tune needs to be Jimmy Hendrix playing the anitham.... at least the 1st few rifs.

Oh wait til you see the new disco light addition. My neighbor sent me a sound activated laser disco light. It's flaming! If you know what I mean.
