Mike!! that is a beautiful sight, thank you for sharing it with us!
What is your timeline now? Do you plan to get this installed before the new year?
Thanks Matthew.
I won't get it installed until February. This is my busiest time of year, and I need Mantrucket every day until idiot season ends on 31 January. That gives me plenty of time to daydream up more currency devouring additions to the swap. Like I said earlier, I'll go ahead and install the hydraboost. That task shouldn't have the truck deadlined more than a couple of days. But for the swap I'll have a lot of other stuff waiting. Borgeson steering shaft, possibly a new wiring harness, etc..
The BBF's ive built all seemed to like cork V/C gaskets, I liked to glue them to the valve covers for easy removal for valve adjustments etc. Only issue i ever had was overtightening stamped steel valve covers and warping them causing leaks.
Thank you Kubota.
The valve cover leak may actually be caused by the valve covers themselves. The mating flanges are straight, but they don't line up perfectly with the cylinder head mating surfaces. There are several places where the gaskets have very narrow contact / compression between the cylinder head and valve cover. I too like to glue my gaskets to the valve covers. Can't do that on these gaskets, because I used them during mock-up and they're already oily. I'll get it figured out. If the problem persists, I'll get different type valve covers. OUCH!

Totally makes sense. I had bad luck with the various types of aluminum aftermarket valve covers, and honestly ended up going back to factory stamped steel covers with double stacked cork gaskets and longer bolts to clear the valvetrain.
Red, this is for you. When Rich comes down, you're invited too. We can knock the leaves off the trees with the 502, then sit around the fire pit all night, watching Rich drink whiskey out of a Mason jar.
Maybe get some wild boar hunting in if you got them there and roast one up. Your engine test stand really did turn out well. Nice job
Did you or Rich ever go to Red Rocks Amphitheater and see this local Colorado Band "Big Head Todd and the Monsters" ? I went to the University of Colorado and studied Civil engineering there with a minor in Solar engineering. Went to Red Rocks a few times. It was an amazingly acoustically sound natural phenomenon. It sits in the foot hills west of Denver.
I've never head of them, but DAMN they're good. That cat can play guitar! When I was in college in Trinidad, I went to Red Rocks in '83 or '84 and saw the Judd's. I was overwhelmed when I first saw the place. And yes, the acoustics were amazing.
And yes, we have wild hogs. I probably kill over 100 a year, and they just keep coming.
I love that area down by Trinidad especially just up from there it's called "Wet Mtn. Valley". Always thought if we win the lottery the Mrs. and I would buy a patch up that way. It's got it's own perfect little micro climate with plenty of ground water. The Mrs. and I and the kids. have a lot of good memories out that way.
I'm getting my years mixed up. Now I'm thinking it was '85 that I went to Red Rocks. Crap, who knows. I majored in alcohol consumption & hunting, with a minor in applied science.
