Another thing that I'm wondering about is the dowels that align the block and bellhousing. Seems I remember the 400 block having one dowel on each side. My 460 block only has the passenger side dowel, and the bellhousing I bought has the driver's side dowel. It wasn't an issue on the test stand. I just cut the head off a bolt and used it as a dowel on the driver's side to hold the mid-plate in place. But that won't work when I install the engine in the truck. I ordered a set of dowels. Gonna see if I can dig up some photos of my truck's bellhousing, to see if it has no dowel. Hopefully it doesn't, and I can just install a dowel in the block.
I got it. I did consider routing the pipes a few different ways. It would have given me some useful experience at exhaust system building, which would come in handy since I'll have to make custom exhaust for the truck. But for expedience and money sake, I opted to just run it short. I can back the stand up to the double doors, and blast the exhaust outside. But for the first fire up I'll move the entire thing outside. Don't want any unforeseen fuel leaks burning down my shop! I've been fretting a bit about how to get it outside, then back inside. The shop wasn't built with a ramped entry. And there's a threshold at the double door. So, I'll have to build a small ramp for the inside and a big ramp for the outside, or just pick up the whole works with the forks on the tractor. I'll probably go the tractor route.

Mike! Lookin killer man, can't wait to see and hopefully hear it, fire up! This thing is gonna be a beast! You must be excited, and a tad nervous I bet too....
I can't wait to see how she'll sound! All the best on the first fire up... do you know what kind of oil you're going to run once the break in is finished!

All the best,
Matthew
Matthew, I'm very nervous. I admit that I'm dragging feet a little. It's ready to run, but I'm busy working fields right now and would prefer to wait til I have a full day to do first fire. The last couple of nights, I've been out in the shop just making notes, checking and rechecking everything, and meditating on it.
Right now it's got 5w-20 Lucas break-in oil in it. I'll most likely run 10w-30 Lucas Hot Rod in it. Yeah, it's got a roller camshaft, but I'll feel better using a high zinc oil in it.

I totally get this. I think it's great that you have your checklist and you are doing both the mental review, and the checklist review.
Having said that....I'll just offer this bit- when you can't think of anything else you know needs to be done, then go for it! Don't wait. If there is bad news, you'd rather know sooner than later.
And if it's good, then you'll feel so relieved....
