it states when it's a "synthetic blend" and when it's a "full synthetic." So if it's not stated as in the case of the 10w30 and the 15w40, I have to assume it's a conventional motor oil.
Why would you when you have all that 5w40 for 4 oil changes? I ran out of the (3) 6 gallon bags in a box that I scored for $50 bucks a piece two oil changes ago I believe. As to using 10w30 in a diesel, my UOAs with MC Super Duty 10w30 came back . And I let the truck tell me when to change (7k miles plus).
But I have to imagine big trucks are using it as that 2% fuel savings over many miles and in many rigs would have to add up. It appears just like modern day gasser engines are going to lighter grades of multi-viscosity oil, diesels may be doing the same. But I'm no expert here and I do see that old habits die hard.
My next upcoming oil change (in about 3k miles or so), I'm going to use Rotella T4 10w30 that I scored at my local NAPA on sale.
This is just my opinion, and I'm no expert, but I believe your situation with more slow speed, stop and go city driving has more to do with higher levels of fuel dilution than it does with the grade of oil. With that said, more fuel will affect 10w30 viscosity wise than it would 5w40. I see your point there.
yes, us metro drivers need all the help we can get.
I don't buy full synthetic because of fuel millage, it's because of gaskets and seals. Also it stands up to heat better. If you don't tow heat isn't much of a issue.
I assume you have more than just these 2 jugs… otherwise it won’t be close to 6 oil changes…
And yes, happy Veterans Day to all the Veterans!
Yep quite a bit more, Dave was teasing me about having enough for at least 4 O C so I was just letting him have it back with the 6 comment
at least that's the way I took his comment

Not at all... I meant why would you want to try 10w30 when you have all that 5w40?? I've got zero issues with people stocking up on oil... I've got somewhat of a prepper attitude myself...

I just took it all jokingly, never intend to stir anything up but I do have to keep an eye out for filters now that we are talking about prepper attitude

No worries either way... I went on the 17 plus Super Duty section and those guys seem wound up pretty tight. Most guys here seem more relaxed... They better watch out if I ever get a 17 plus. My sarcasm has no end.
I just went down in my basement to check on my supplies from my past order from dieselfiltersonline.com
I have 1 Motorcraft oil filter left, 1 Motorcraft trans filter left ( I think I only ordered 2 ), and 3 Motorcraft fuel filter sets. I do have an extra DFCM cap with an extra WIF sensor and drain plug just in case.
As for oil, I have 16 qts of Rotella T4 10w30 that will be going in for the upcoming oil change (along with a fuel filter set>>due on this 3rd oil change since last filter replacement) and 16 qts of Rotella T6 5w40 that will go in after the 10w30. I do have 7 qts or so of Motorcraft 10w30 that I may buy another two 5 quart bottles of at Wally World.
I do have two Donaldson oil filters for my truck but will probably hold off to use until after warranty just in case... probably doesn't matter but I can be OCD about some stuff.
Before I got my truck I ordered a dozen oil filters and 2 sets of fuel filters. I am about to use my 3rd oil filter and my first fuel filter set. So, sometime I will need to pick up some more fuel filter sets and a transmission filter too. Not in a super hurry since I have another 15k before needing the transmission filter though… I also ordered from dieselfiltersonline.com. The only thing is make sure you order enough to get free shipping!
And I only have enough T6 for 2 more oil changes. I’ll slowly start picking up more of that here and there too…

I'll have to look into that online deal, I have been pretty lucky with the oil filters at the local Walmart. I've got fuel filters & air filters from Ford dealers that sell on ebay for good prices without cost for shipping, where I also got a fuel filter cap with the drain & WIF sensor. My cap had the stop broken off of it when I bought it but I've just been keeping track of the turns to remove & put it back that way w/o any problems so far.
BTW maybe I better check myself I have 13 gal of 5-40 & 7.5 gal of 15-40 sitting here but then again my son works at the local Ford dealer as a service writer & has had to turn folks with trucks away from oil changes because they didn't have oil.
