Another oil filter comparison video MC/Baldwin/Donaldson

So now that we know that Ford has a new oil filter to replace the FL2051S, it would be interesting to see a comparison between those two when taken apart, but until that time, I came across this video. I am posting it up because it gives the micron ratings for each filter.

The FL2051S is 98% at 18 microns and absolute at 20 microns (if I'm saying that correctly).

The Baldwin B7379 is absolute at 8 microns.

The Donaldson P502503 is 99% at 15 microns.

He doesn't break down the filter media like other guys but admits to such. You can see by the video that the Donaldson has the largest anti-drain valve material of the filters.

A deeper dive on oil filters

Okay after further research, I found that Mobil 1, Super Tech and STP filters are made by Champion Labs which manufactures the filters here apparently. I say apparently because I don't have definitive proof of that but that's what it said online... and we know about online info at times... but here goes.

The reason I dug deeper is because I see Autozone sells the STP S10890XL filter for our trucks at a decent price of $11.99.

Motorcraft filters are made by Purolator and apparently Purolator is owned by Mann & Hummel.

Purolator makes the Shell Rotella oil filters.

Here's info on the Shell Rotella RTO177 filter. Seems to be inline with the FL2051S but not as efficient at 20 microns.

The Mobil M1-405 filter is 99% efficient at 30 microns. There's the K&N HP4005 which I wonder is just a Mobil 1 filter in a different can and branded as an K&N...

Here's a filter cross reference page on a filter distributor site that I haven't pursued yet.

Here's the back story on Champion Labs,

Here's the filters they market.

And more info on that...

Here's an article that states MOST oil filters are manufactured right here in the good 'ole USA...

So the bottom line for me now is, I do not feel that I have to solely use Motorcraft oil filters as apparently all filters are either manufactured by Purolator or Champion Labs... They may be speced a little different and be a little different inside, but they are all made in the same place which appears here in the United States. But I do admit I'd like to at least use blended media if not synthetic media in a oil filter.

I would have agree with the fact that the new Motorcraft oil filter FL2124S (provided by @FishOnOne and thank you bro..)is made by Purolator.

How to use FORScan to adjust fuel tank size and DTE

Okay I thought I remember somebody asking how to adjust the fuel tank size, and I think it was you @Dirthawg2.0

If it wasn't... here's the link anyway.

More oil filter talk; STP 10890XL

So I bought one of these yesterday at Auto Zone. Now that we have seen both the Baldwin B7379 and the Donaldson P502503 cut open on that video I posted, maybe I'll cut the STP 10780XL open and see what's inside for schitts and giggles...

Thanks for the link Dave!

I was aware of this procedure and did indeed make that change using FORScan back when I installed the S&B tank last fall.

The original question I was looking for info on was how to calibrate the AFE (average fuel economy) on the 11-16 trucks which will make the DTE accurate regardless of fuel tank size. The 17+ trucks have this option available using engineering mode. Unfortunately the older trucks don't have this option.

Thanks for your efforts regardless I'm sure it will help someone out in the future.

SPEs NEW 2008 to 2016 cab body mounts

I signed up for emails for SPEs products and got an email showing new products.

Apparently they are now offering silicone cab body mounts for my gen truck and I have to admit, I'm impressed with what I see... I haven't checked out S&Bs mounts recently, as those were the ones I was going to go with when the time comes, but these look like they should be better than the S&Bs... Check it out...

I like the idea of machined billet pieces in the mount... they look way more beefier than stock and even the aftermarket pieces he has on the table. They are in PA where like here in NY, we are in the rust belt. Those will last A LOT longer in the rust belt states than steel pieces. Unless you get you truck oiled like mine.

I don't if it's the S&Bs or not that he has to compare to theirs, but I'd have to assume they are. Maybe one of you guys have have the S&Bs can tell if they are or not. But I like the fact that they made them as big as possible. I do like the zinc coated heavy duty hardware that comes with them also.

Let me know what you guys think.

SPEs NEW 6.7 oil pan

If I ever considered buying an after market oil pan, this would be the one. But that's a big IF. I currently run the Filtration Solutions FS2500 oil bypass filter. With it, that adds an extra quart of oil for 14 quarts. With the SPE oil pan, that would be 17 quarts of oil. That's quite a LOT of oil for a truck that's a daily driver only. But this pan might work and help a guy who works his truck like a truck. Beefy piece none the less.

I like the tapered design of the pan bottom to get all of the old oil out. Very well thought out design IMO.

SPE 2017+ 6.7L Powerstroke SPE Fuel Filter System

This for you 17 plus Alumina Duty guys... This was also in the email I received from them. Personally, I disagree with him about the top filter on our 6.7s, but I do see his point about having fuel filters down low on the frame of the truck as the potential for problems due to leaks and hence, fire, is there. But it sure is convenient to have the filters in one place low where you can drain all the fuel in one pan.
