Diode Dynamics 921 XPR bulbs

Just replaced my cheap Amazon LED 921 bulbs in the reverse sockets. One burned out and since they were on sale for Thanksgiving, I pulled the trigger last week.

The old bulb vs new one

The Diode Dynamic is on left and the Amazon on the right... Maybe not as obvious in the pic but the Diode Dynamics was brighter...

Amazon left. Dynamic Diode right

These guys throw off some light to be sure...

Both replaced and lit...

They still fit but do come close to the lens...

I'll look and see when I ordered the Amazon bulbs but they did last awhile...

Okay so these are the ones I ordered in April 2018... So I got 4.5 years which is pretty good I gotta admit...

Let's see how long the Dynamic diode ones last as they are definitely built better than the cheapies from Amazon...

Active Regen

I had an imminent regen coming so I left the house early today before work at 0630. I probably put on about 70 miles or so after I arrived at work...

It was 30 miles long, the longest I've seen, and about 400 miles out. The iDash went to 0.0 and truck to 25%.

iDash climbed up to 97% from 92% once truck went active.

Temps at the start of the REGEN.

This pic was taken when I was closer to my exit and it's relatively flat there. I'll never do regens in 5th gear again.... EGT4 was 1100 degrees and I was in 6th gear.

It shut off when I was coming off the I90 exit. EGT 4 stayed hot for a bit once off. I pulled into the lot and let truck idle. EGT1 was 350 and EGT4 was 600 when I shut the truck off.

EDIT -- after work, the truck said 20%. It didn't stay there for long once I started driving, but I do see that often that the SL% goes down another notch when I restart the truck after everything is cool.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: DERRINGER AND IDASH

Looking into a manual regen procedure again on the iDash to post a response here, I came across this page again and thought I'd post here as it has a lot of info on the Derringer and iDash.

From the video: Water methanol injection? Interesting recommendation, I'll have to research this...

Edit: Going through Fritz' thread now, good info! https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-progress.html

if you guys decide to look into methonal injection (aka washer fluid) make sure you get a kit for a diesel and not a gas motor. there are settings on most kits for start pressure (at what boost do you want injection to start) and max pressure (at what boost do you want 100% spray). Gas kits will provide options of starting from 2 to 10 PSI of boost and deisel kits will provide options of starting from 5 to 10 PSI of boost. if you put a gas kit on a diesel and set the spray to start at 2 PSI the exhust will run so cool that you can forget about passive regens and active regens will struggle.

alternative to a meth injection kit....if all you are after is to clean out the exhuast...the next time it thunder stroms with terential down pours just take you truck on a good long drive. when you finish you will notice very small sand looking particles at the tail pipes...thats the stuff the steam cleaned out of your emmissions system.

Fritz, I was looking at your thread earlier, but it stopped being updated. Did you finish your install successfully? Notice any changes, or have anything to report regarding results?

I had a meth system on my prior truck.

on current truck I haven’t finished the install.

I have to install some new intake piping which I bought and is pending. The new intake piping has the threaded holes for the injectors.

Roger, gotcha. If I do the injection I'll likely wait until spring, when the weather is more conducive for working outside (no way to get the truck into my garage otherwise). I'll likely order the intake hose with bungs built in from SPE, or that collar with the predrilled bungs. I'm just too paranoid that the bolted-in bung will lose that nut down the intake, lol.

Well, hope you continue your thread soon, I'm looking forward to seeing it finished, and your thoughts on how you like it!

Oil catch can drain

I just drained my Mishimoto oil catch can at 615 miles out since last drain. There were 125 ml of water and immeasurable goop on the bottom and sides of the can...

@speakerfritz I remember you asking about what was used in the Mishi catch can and I stated a sponge... Here's a few pics for you.

Dave, doesn't the catch can have a drain at the bottom?
I would like one but wouldn't want to stop every fuel up and drain it. my thought would be a long drain hose and a valve down low or just leave it open and let it drip. or at minimum open it weekly and let it drip over night into a pan or something.

Yep sure does... I bought one of the oil pan drain valves but never installed it... Actually forgot about it to be honest.

With you being in Arizona, I believe, with it being warmer, it should only collect oil which it does for me in the summertime. Then you can go thousands of miles without having to worry about draining it because it collects smaller amounts of oil than it does on a truck like mine that operates when it's cold out and collects the condensation from the atmosphere that collects in the hot oil when it cools down in cold weather.
