I plan to perform another "test" when we depart this weekend for the beach. I will have the ATOTO A6 on the home WiFi, but I will also have the WiFi hotspot established on my phone. As we drive away from the house and the home WiFi signal is lost, I hope and expect the ATOTO to jump over to the S7 WiFi hotspot.
That should work. I do the same with my S7, and the ATOTO S8 transitions to it from house WiFi smoothly.

Good to hear from someone with 1st hand experience. I figured it would and will, but technology can sometimes through us for a loop whenever it damn well pleases. Just one of the many reasons why I left the IT world.
Had a 5 hour trip from home to the beach today as a shakedown trip for the head unit.
Wow, I absolutely made the right decision!
Wireless charging of my phone which was providing a WiFi hotspot for the head unit. Phone never lost any power doing the entire trip. The head unit stayed connected to the WiFi hotspot even after being turned off and back on.
FSL was utilized to log several data files.
Google Maps did great. The only hiccup I saw was that when the head unit is shut off I have to push "start" on the screen in order to restart navigation. It remembers the destination and everything, just have to restart navigation.
I bounced between FSL and Google Maps many times and each were performing flawlessly.
For those of you on contemplating an ATOTO radio purchase, it appears their "Gen2" stuff will be available in the next few days. Their myatoto.com site doesn't show them yet, but ad references elsewhere are starting to refer to the current products as "Gen1", and some ads for "Gen2" models can be found. I have no idea what the differences are between the generations.
I've been sitting on a Sous-inspired S8 Gen1 for a month, and am tempted to return it, though I probably won't. I tend to buy the latest technology I can, and run it as long as possible (I'm writing this on a 13yo PC, and I just retired my 2002 garage PC, running XP, though only as an RDP client, this year), but perhaps a bird-in-the-hand approach is the more prudent one, this time. I'd hate to be waiting on a product, after waiting months to get time to work on our Excursion.
Anyway, thought you guys would want to be aware of what's coming soon.

Mark
Mark, this is great information and I appreciate you sharing what you have learned with us. This coincides a bit with the pricing/sale I was able to attain if they had a Gen2 in the shop almost ready for release.
Sometimes it is best to go with last years model as it is deeply discounted and has the bugs worked out if it. If people are afraid of first year vehicles, technology can be much worse. It can also be fantastic and pushing the envelope of features and usability. A roll of the dice for sure.
I am thoroughly enjoying the A6 Pro I installed and have to give credit to Rob and Jeff for going the S8 route. That was just more than I was looking to spend, but I trust their advice and experience going forward even though Rob is just now getting his truck.
Mark, I'm like you when it comes to PC's. I have 3 that are 15+ years old, but they surf the interweb and play pandora just fine. PC's are not like tires that need to be changed due to age.
Thanks again for the heads up on the Gen2, definitely something I will keep an eye on and update the thread for future readers and installers that may be interested.
Learned something today about the ATOTO A6 Pro and thought I would share it with those interested.
I had the batteries disconnected for the past two weeks due to some other maintenance. Today, I finished that maintenance and had the truck out for a test drive.
I could not get Google Maps to sync up with my location no matter what I tried. I checked the GPS signal via the app, it was good. I checked the Wi-Fi strength, it was good. I disconnected and reconnected to the Wi-Fi, it checked good. I turned off the Wi-Fi hotspot on my phone and restarted my phone. Then reconnected the Wi-Fi and it was good.
Still no map display on Google Maps though...
I was able to select a previous search result in Google maps and select "directions". It canceled out after about 45 seconds and said it could not connect to the network.
I then opened a web browser app and went to the FTE and that is when I realized that the clock was not synced up with the network which was causing a connection failure to the internet.
Up to this point, I had set the clock to be manually adjusted. This time, I selected set clock automatically based on network time and Google Maps popped up within one second.
I knew about this issue from my IT administrator days, but it slipped my mind during this recent issue. Now even if I have the battery is disconnected, the Android head unit shouldn't sync time based on the network the next time it is started up.
Simple mistake that was easily corrected, but had me wondering what was going on for a few minutes.

I would not have put together clock sync with the network affecting internet connectivity on the A6. I'll have to keep an eye out for this.

This is actually a very common detail with a network consisting of routers, switches, firewall, computers, etc... They will normally pull timing from one device in order to stay synced within their existence.
I was tired and flustered at the time (pun intended), but as soon as the web browser said time and date needed to be set, I literally said "that is the problem". Now that I have time and date to set via network, it should be OK.
A little gotcha or easter egg though that I thought I would share here.
Looking at the chart below, I can see several A6 models available. The 5th row down is labeled "panel operation" and indicates which A6 Pro models have soft or hard buttons.
Do you happen to have the specific model number like A6Y2721PRB that I noted above as the one I purchased with the hard buttons.
Thank you for providing additional pictures for the install.
I too prefer the physical buttons, hopefully your customer preferred the soft buttons. Either way, the head unit is a hit in my opinion and is very useful.
I look forward to having live Google maps and a Joe Rogan podcast going on YouTube during long drives.
