Did any of you guys install the A6/S8 screen protectors? I did, after install, and that made it difficult to not get air bubbles underneath it, so it looks terrible. For those who've had these radios for awhile, do the screens scratch easily without the protector?

I did not use the protectors - its only been a few months of occasional use, but so far so good.
Forgive my lack of Forscan knowledge and these OBD adapters. I've only used Forscan for doing a buzz test and speedometer adjustment so far. I noticed that some of the OBDII adapters have a toggle switch on them (don't recall what they are for offhand). I noticed you guys purchasing these adapters to install with your head units (don't see any toggle switches on these adapters). Is that not needed for Forscan?
Nice Jason! That should work very well and have hardwired reliability.
SJBJ, l believe the switch is to change the mode of communication. Like CAN bus and MS. In our case, the switch is not needed.

I figured something out yesterday using live Google maps and the saved route that is on the home screen as a button.
Normally and when not using the saved route button, during live navigation when the truck is shut off I need to select my destination as the most recent search and hit start. Not a big deal as the last search result (coordinate, place, address, etc) appears at the top and is easily selected.
Using the saved route buttons as pictured above in an earlier post of mine, the route/destination is still in the destination field. So, I simply hit "start" and if I go.
Not a bug deal either way, but if I have waypoints or route preferences like using a bypass around Louisville KY instead of going through the city as Google maps wanted me to, it is very easy.
Another great addition for cheap to the dinosaur truck.
Looking forward to getting a hardwired OBDII adapter like that OBDLink EX Jason purchased. Often the Atoto S8 will have bluetooth2 shut down when I go to start the truck, and I'll have to re-enable it, before the BAFX will talk to FORScan.
Used live Google maps for the 400 mile journey today. Informed me if stalled cars, speed traps, construction and great directions. Nearly 1000 miles over the past 3 days of Google telling me where to go...
Okay. Now you guys have got me seriously considering a head unit. I didn't use to care because road/engine noise is so loud I never used my stereo but all these other features have got my attention. Is there anything the S8 provides that makes it worthwhile over the A6?

Leonard, I don't listen to music or anything unless my wife is there to be DJ or we are out west where the roads are straight and there are no distractions. Then, I will listen to a Joe Rogan podcast or Pandora. Maybe an audio book from YouTube.
The features of the ATOTO A6 and other head units are something that cannot be denied. If someone is planning to use a USB dongle for FSL, then the ATOTO with dual BT receiver's is not a requirement. Shop around, there are a lot if Android head units out there!
I laid out the differences between the S8 and A6, the primary ones anyway. ATOTO also has a chart on their website for people like us to compare bit to bit. Physical buttons, screen resolution, screen type, RAM and processor were important to me. These may not be the buyer's primary concerns though.
I did not see the value in the S8 over the A6 Pro for my application, but at leastv2 other FTE'rs have. I am a cheap *** though and waited for the head unit to be $150, the dash camera microSD to be on sale before purchasing.
Having gotten rid of all screens from phones, tablets, CTS, ScanGaugeII, etc... is a big benefit for me. I prefer the minimalistic take of the interior even the wireless charging pad in the cubby with the 3 coils.
If I had it to do over again, I'd get the A6 pro over the S8 premium for this truck. I may still swap the A6 from the Yukon and the S8 from the F350. The A6 is fast enough and screen resolution is more than adequate. I would recommend the hard buttons for power/home/volume vs the soft touch buttons of the S8 model I have. Sometimes the soft buttons do not respond to my fat fingers. There are models of the S8 that have hard buttons though.
No USB on the front of the S8 premium - have to go to the glovebox USB extenders for that - less convenient. No USB on the back of the unit - though the USB extender cables may work for a hardwired OBDII dongle - haven't tested that yet. No quick charge USB on the S8 premium - get the pro or ultra for that if needed.
The S8 supports a nice "virtual bird's eye view" rear camera that I like, but again, more of a nice to have than a critical feature.
I just ordered mine today. I hope I can figure out all this ForeScan, PID, LMNOP jargin! I'm just at the beginning of the road, I hope to make it as far down the road as you guys some day!

It’s FORScan. ForeScan is close to something very very different.
