ATOTO Android Head Unit Project...
All of your questions can be answered above. If not, we welcome any/all questions, thoughts and concerns.
I recently installed an android headunit in my car, now I also want a dashcam. So I'm trying to decide what cam to purchase. But information and long term reviews of the usb cams supported by these chinese headunits are hard to find.
As far as I can tell the atoto cam (actually a rebranded Anytek x28) probably is about as good as it gets regarding picture quality.
But some users have reported that their Anytek x28 based cams failed less than a year after purchase. So I would like to know how your atoto cam is doing?
If you would also share your opinion about the cams ability at night, that would be highly appreciated.

I have only had the camera installed for a few months, but it performs very well and on startup. The microSD is accessible through an app on the head unit where I can view and lock footage.
I have no thoughts on nighttime driving/camera performance as I don't normally drive the truck in hours of darkness.
I am 100% happy with what I have experienced and seen thus far, but that is all I can say.
I am sorry I don't have more information for you.

I have seen cheaper versions of the Anytek x28 advertise 1920x1080 20fps. Atoto doesn't seem to specify fps. Can you verify if it does record full hd at 30fps?
Have you used the cam on cloudy/raining days where lightning is less than optimal?

Yes, the ATOTO dash camera is 30 FPS at 1080p resolution.
Another FTE'r made a comment recently about watching gauges constantly being "ludicrous". I couldn't agree more and went a step further to reduce the distractions in the cab. Hence the wireless charger in the cubby, FSL in the head unit instead of on a tablet, etc...

The camera performed well in this low light situation, but the MPH was 0, so there is that to consider.
The only gripe I have is about the camera angle. I catch the top part of the hood in the bottom 5% of the screen because the lens only rotates up so much. Due to the steep angle of the 2000 SD windshield, it is what it is.
Although, the very top of the hood being visible adds some orientation to the recording, so it doesn't bother me much.
I am 100% honest with my reviews and decisions and anything I write on this forum I am comfortable telling someone in person looking them in the eyes.

If you are satisfied I think I will order it from Amazon so I will be covered if it fail prematurely.
Thanks again!
Ps: I spent a few hours today reading this fairly long thread, and you defently seem like a very decent honest man.

I am glad you enjoyed the thread and realize that even something that I am completely honest about needs to be evaluated to see if it fits your needs.
If you would be so kind as to update us with your findings on low light/night driving I am sure others like you would appreciate it.
Like it??
I was originally planning to use the BT OBDLink MX+, but ended up using a USB version from OBDLink, I think it was an SX... I cannot remember right now.
FORScan works great with the push of a single button. No need to constantly watch or monitor the gauges as GORScsn starts a log immediately after it connects to the PCM.
As a matter of fact, if I am using FORScan, I usually minimize the gauges and use Google Maps or just have the background visible.
If I feel I want to review the logs later, I can email them or transfer them via USB stick.
Easy, safe and extremely useful to review logs of data later if desired.

I downloaded Torque, Forscan and a couple of others already to try.
Good on you for getting a few different options. I prefer FORScan over TorquePro, but Torque definitely looks more visually appealing when it is all set up. But, FORScan is fast, clean and works every time. I cannot even come close to saying the same for TorquePro.
Hopefully your Boson treats you well and makes having PCM/virtual gauges quick and easy as it has for me.
