FWIW, this is a legitimate test procedure we use to test the ‘corner weld’ where a tank shell meets the tank bottom (large, above ground tanks. Up to 350ft diameter with up to 1.5” thick walls that are high strength steel....).
I learn something new everyday. Thanks for the tip. I did fill the welded section of the CAC tube with water and did not notice any drips. The reason Y2KW57 is suggesting a pressure test is because the strength of the weld is in question though.

Like start off with a photo of your current shopping Ark that you sailing up and down the plumbing aisles with right now.

Then once at home, lay out all your pieces and test apparatus builds.

It's up to you of course, but I only suggest this separately from your SXE variable vane T4 project due to guessing that those who are not at all interested in anything but stock, modified stock, or drop in turbos would entirely miss the benefit of your boost leak detection build, when it applies to everyone, regardless of what turbo they have or how it is plumbed.
LOL! I will have to catalog all the variations of my username that you come up with. I suspect there will be many secondary threads I can start from work performed on this project. Going down the plumbing department aisle with an action cam strapped to my head will garner some strange looks though. Also, I have a tendency to Heath Robinson/Rube Goldberg test rigs. At the moment, I am feeling like FordTruckNumbnuts

Perhaps I am wrong though, either way I am looking forward to the results of this project.
You are correct sir.

That is an excellent reminder. I think I will lay the whole thing out in the backyard with heavy blankets over it before pressurizing.

Water is NOT a substitute for this test.

Diesel will wick its way through a hole you’d need a microscope to see. Water won’t do that.

Structural failure is so unlikely i would not even consider it.

Im going to disagree with the above concerns about not beveling or gapping thin-wall tubing like this. I butt tubing together and easily get full penetration. Sometimes toooo much.... (I also have practice filling in holes) This biggest problem I have welding tubing is managing heat. I am not patient and when I’m laying a nice bead I tend to keep trucking along until - DAMMIT, I blew a hole in the tube!!!

Fot the record, I’m not a welder. I have worked with actual welders my whole life and I like to say I know the difference between a welder and a welding machine (there is a ‘welding machine’ or 2 in my garage - sometimes a welder shows up!)

I am pleased to report that the weld has passed the sprayed diesel test. Still trying to figure out the pressure test.

FordTruckNailedit !

(literally, and figuratively)

Now how many of you would have thought to use a PortaPower, a sheet of rubber, and a metal disc in an angular jig that forces the 1" ram to act against itself on the opposite end of the tube being pressure tested?

So what is that silver device hanging on the tripod with a wire running toward the truck?

The blow cam for YouTube, in case something exciting happened?

First, your music selection in your videos has always been what a spectator might hear during an act in the circus. Is that the sort of tune playing on repeat in your mind when doing something like this?

B. I see you shop at the same safety shoe store I shop at, good choice!

4th, well done on testing the tube well past the pressure it will experience and without shooting a projectile across the driven snow and through a neighbors window.

Lastly, keep up the good work!

That's because I'm a clown. The question is, what kind.....

That is embarrasing. I'm usually a PPE **** but I had to run in and out of the house so many times I didn't bother with the boots.

Thank you sir! I will endeavor to maintain a level of professionalism that will make this forum proud. That boat may have sailed with the revelation about my other career though.
