I just want to give some props to you SmackDaddy for not only doing a great job rebuilding the motor, but documenting your progress (including the slight hiccups) along the way. Gives us regular guys way too much confidence to undertake something like this ourselves.
Thank you. I couldn’t have done it without a lot of guy’s help and this forum. Before I bought this Excursion I had probably only popped the hood of a diesel truck three or four times and look at it now. I can do most anything on this one. Electrical...still learning!
Last Monday I hit a thousand break in miles on DBR oil so I changed oil and filter and got to tow my boat and open her up a little. She ran like a champ but the new cam wants something. I don’t feel like the turbo lights off as it should so I gave Gearhead a call and had them rewrite my tunes for the upgrades. I’m having some taptop compatibility issues so I have not been able to load and run them yet.
15” wheels are perfect...there is a reason my trailer is low profile, so the boat comes off and floats without having to back the truck into the water. C’mon man!
And nylon sliders on the bed bunks. Boats slide right off and on.
I have a thing about slippery trailer bunks. During my 2 1/2 year build of my 30' center console I sprayed my bunks with silicone spray to allow me to drag the partially finished hull on the trailer. So, on the big launch day, with friends and family there to witness, as I neared the water the boat began to slide off the trailer. Unfortunately the motors were at the edge of the water went that happened. Everything ended up OK, but now the thought of low friction bunks, well, I can't get the picture out of my mind.
I am a fishing guide and have been trailering, launching and running boats all my life. My trailer setup is fine. Slick poly bunks scratch your hull and with my whole boat and motor under 800 pounds there’s no need for anything but carpet. I’m grouchy today. Sick of this fake pandemic bull**** controlling everyone. If you didn’t wear a mask last year during flu season why would you wear one now? I hope my FTE brothers and sisters are more intelligent than that. If you’re scared of it stay home and wither away or else get back to life before the BS.
My chicken pen came out nice and now I’ve started on the coop. The truck pulls great!
I may have missed it but are u using the oem fuel pump?
No I have a 6.7 Motorcraft fuel pump with CAT 2 micron secondary filter and a custom regulated return system I made last year. Recently added a Beans Micro sump and it has been great!

Yessir it was a great choice. The 6.7 sending unit fit but I didn’t really want to have to modify the fuel level sensor. The sending unit was plenty long, compressed the springs about 2” to make it fit. I sent it back and did the sump anyway,
