I have been going back and forth with Warren and GearHead on tuning because my Warren Competition transmission has been shifting crazy since day one. Delayed 2-3, 3-5 flare, smooth a while, back to erratic shifting...change tuning, drive more, same thing. Back to stock trans tuning was the red flag (Thanks Razzi) and I made the call.
This morning Warren told methey are going to build me an upgraded (Competition Plus with billet input and internediate shafts) transmission to replace this one that just rolled over 1100 miles. Aftermarket solenoids were used due to supply chain issues and apparently I’m not the only person with the same issues and the transmission is damaged from the crazy shifting. They got some Motorcraft solenoids in and all should be good. I guess I will be a pro at swapping the 5r110w now.
I will try to do a decent step-by-step for the FTE community. You guys have taught me and other so much and we have learned together but I’ll try to pay it forward.
I’m not too mad, I got a thousand dollar upgrade on the next transmission and if I ever throw bigger injectors and turbo in her I’ll be good for 800+ horsepower. Warren Diesel has been nothing but helpful and not once been even a little bit irritated with my phone calls and emails even from before I bought the unit from them. In these crazy times we live in brought on by foolish politicians there are a lot of good ol’ boys suffering the consequences of what happened on January 6th when the VP turned his back on the American people. We need to all remember that and make it right in 2024.

Well I’m still waiting on a reply from Warren. I’ve called three times since 11/17 and get a promised call back but nothing...crickets... Still shifting like crap and I am not comfortable driving it far until I get what I paid for...pretty frustrated at this point. I just sent an email voicing my concerns. We will see how this pans out. I will bulldog if it comes down to that.
I don't post much...more of a lurker ....but holy hell I started reading this thread and didn't stop till this morning ...couldn't stop..lots of great info here...just wanted to thank you for taking the time to post all of it !

You are very welcome. It is ongoing so stick around!
I called the shop yesterday and Andy has my transmission ready to go but needs the torque comverter and they have been taking longer than normal to come in lately. I am going to call today and suggest I just use the one I have and just swap them out to get this ball rolling. Goerend makes a nice unit and has the best warranty and failure rate (zero) according to Andy.
I got the Mann Hummel ProVent400 crankcase filter installed a few days ago and the truck is already running better and the exhaust haze has cleaned up to basically nothing. I think the oil leaking from the rear glow plug harness on both sides was caused by my CCV modification that had a 1” draft hose running all the way to the rear bumper through the frame rail and was causing excess crankcase pressure.
The Goerend is supposedly a fine piece. The one in my current transmission is really nice with a full billet body and ARP bolts instead of studs and lock nuts. It makes mating the flywheel up so much easier, you can seat the transmission bellhousing bolts then spin the flywheel with the harmonic balancer bolt and watch the threads line up with the flywheel hole through the bottom inspection port, thread in the bolt and then go to the next one. Then torque them down through the driver side inspection port (inspection mirror helps see the bolt head).
The Mann Hummel CCV filter is made in Germany. I opted for it because it’s good for 675hp, cheaper than the Racor CCV4000/6000, filters are cheaper and did I mention made in Germany??? They sell the unit where I get my filters at dieselfiltersonline along with the filters.
