Looking at your pics and description it looks and sounds like your Cerakote guy needs to use his knees and bend down when he's spraying. Looks like he never sprayed that end and what you wiped off was basically overspray of the coating. Spraying for years I'm very aware of guys making that mistake.

Also Here's a link for guys that want a self teaching affordable KIT for cerakote.

Your build is looking good by the way.

That’s a decent price. I would like more colors, I’ll look into it more and see what I can come up with. I could get a Harbor Freight tarp shed and use it for a spray booth...
Pete I am looking for the straight up pipe that deletes the EGR flange and can only find Sinister Diesel and IPR Research...I’d like to find another business. Which one does Anyhony Youngblood use on his rebuilds? He may fab his own, I’ll check his site.

Pete, has that brand held up well for you?

What is the catalyst? I can't go near some of the hardeners.

I think you nailed that one, Pete. If you look at the pic, the same plane of the flange showing color, it's also in the bolt hole what's not fully coated. Dry spray.

When it comes to those delete pipes it's all about the flange thickness. When I did mine I used a delete pipe that came with a cheap EGR cooler delete kit that I never used. The flanges were thick but I did massage the pipe seam off of the sealing surface and never had a leak.
I used this Y pipe. Incredibly affordable so I was skeptical but once received I'd recommend. Good joints and good welds. Fitment was no problem. They do make a full pipe version but that's harder to work with if it has to come off.

Not sure what Anthony does for the delete pipe but he uses a stock pipe and replaces the bellows similar to the bellows on the pipe I listed the link to above.
That starter kit allows you to choose colors. Check out there site, there are a ton of colors.

It looks like some do not need a catalyst. I had stayed away from that brand as I had seen hardeners mentioned. I should have looked deeper.

I’m going to be childish and say that I mentioned that earlier...haha. I know exactly what he did. He was in a hurry to get the weekend started and he just resprayed it without media blasting it and he missed that spot completely. They were hanging on hooks from the mounting flange hole on that end and he must have had them hanging high and just halfassed it. Either way he’s doing my new pipes for free too and they will be done right or I’ll get my c-note back!

I have a newer y-pipe already and had it on for over a year. I wrapped it with DEI heat wrap and sprayed it with ceramic wrap spray along with my downpipe down about 24”. The under hood temperature is much cooler since I did that. I also added a layer of thermal pad on the firewall.
I will figure something out, not really much on eBay parts with questionable origins. I might just leave the one I have, I just wanted the best flow possible with all the other performance upgrades.

Per my wife, if it’s longer then 60 seconds, and maybe not even that long, I’m going to forget. What evers up there dies of loneness.

Is that all he charged. The shop 5 minutes from me charges $250 for a V8.

Yep. There’s another guy about 20 miles away who estimates at $200.

Eek...but I bet he coats the whole part too! I was looking at them again earlier and little rust spots are bleeding through all over and one flat side of each flange is barely coated. I’ll have him try once more...

The boxes of parts are pretty much all empty and my individually labeled bags of parts are also pretty much done for. It’s getting close! I ordered the BD Diesel up pipes yesterday...the honey badger hole is endless!
Last night I drilled and tapped the heads for coolant return lines and cleaned up the exhaust manifold bolts and spacers. Today I finished dressing the engine as much as she’s going to get until she goes back in. I might do a mock up and take a few photos with the manifolds, up pipes, up pipe wraps and turbo blanket installed. Once they go in you only see about 15% of the aesthetics. I’m about to install the Blue Top steering gear and mess with the hoses some then call it a day. I work the next 8 days so it’s time to rest up this evening! I’ll post some photos later this evening after I pick up some tools and the shop looks a little more presentable. Jack would probably fall out if he saw the pile of tools on the work table!
