It will be interesting to see what the cost difference will actually be. Right now the diesel is a $9k msrp upcharge over the 6.2l, but the 7.3l will also be an upcharge over the 6.2l. So the difference between 7.3l and 6.7l should be slightly less. Maybe not though, they could just raise the diesel price to keep that 9k spread.

I just purchased a 19 so I wont be in the market for a long time, but I am really curious to see what pricing will be on the 2020s. Ford has consistently increased prices on even unchanged items such as, +$100 destination, +$200 power running boards, +$100 LED lights, +$200 moonroof, just to name a few items on 18 vs 19s. It would seem that the base MSRP will increase with the addition of more standard features and the option prices would continue the trend with increases as well.

Not being familiar with the GM 8.1L, I had to look it up. It did have a nice torque line.

GM 8.1L Vortec V-8 Specs, History, & Information

And this chart was interesting to me. But apparently, it sucked some fuel.

Bummer, it looks more like an F-150 in the front. Spend all that money for LED lights, I want it to look like a Super Duty.

My insider was saying Ford is shooting for the $1,500 area for upcharge on the 7.3. Only time will tell.

That link has some errors, it was possible to get the 8.1 with a manual transmission, though I can't imagine how few were actually sold. In the pickups, it otherwise came with the Allison, and in the Avalanche/Suburban/Yukon with the 4L85E. As for fuel economy, my experience was that it really isn't much worse than my 6.2/4.30 combo (12-13 mpg in mixed driving vs 13-14 with the Ford, or 10 mpg towing 6,000 lb). Good powertrain, it's just a shame about the early 2000s GM interior that comes with it.

Long stroke, cam profile are the major factors in torque for the gassers. Some of those old straight 6's in Jeeps and trucks get 90% of torque barely beyond idle...

Any word on if they will have more off-road equipment on the 2020. I like my 16 fx4 but would like to have a front locker, 37” or 38” aggressive tires and a factory winch. Kinda been thinking of buying a power wagon. Just wish ford would offer one. I need to tow 10k so the raptor wouldn’t work for me. I suppose I could add that stuff myself to a 250. But when you can buy a power wagon why by a truck a then have to modify if and possibly void the warranty.

Lawyers will never let them offer a front locker without that it disconnects at about 3mph. The rear locker in my 2017 unlocked at a low speed too. Only useful in technical rock crawling. Real world use was nil.

If you really want one, just add an ARB air locker up front. And an Ox or Detroit soft locker in the rear.

Intake runner length on gassers has a huge effect on low rpm torque. Early TPI 5.7L GM motors had very long runners for low end power. I believe they copied the idea from the earlier Toyota 22RE motor manifold design. Yamaha (in my opinion) perfected the idea in the V6 they designed which went into the first gen Taurus SHO cars with dual runner ‘snake nest’ manifold.

That is not going to happen, that is left for the aftermarket far to many issues with big rubber and lfit kits etc. Ford is not in the winch business Warn is so why ask for a Warn winch with a Ford price $$$$$.

I still haven't warmed up to the '17+ trucks yet. I like the looks from the side and rear but the front view just doesn't look good to me. The grill on the 2020 isn't much of an improvement and the tailgate looks like they rounded it a bit and looks worse IMO.

I'm in the fence about keeping my '13 for awhile longer or getting a new '19 or waiting for the 2020 to see the new motor and trans. Waiting and then getting a holdover '19 if I don't want a'20 won't work because I want a manual t-case and that's gotten to be a special order thing now.

I wish Ford would offer wheel flares as an option on all trim levels. I had a truck in the past without them and I couldn't keep the paint on the wheel well lip. On my current truck I ordered a set of take off flares from eBay and had them pianted to match. It ended up costing more than a set of Bush Whackers but they fit better and allowed me to use oem mudflaps.

Curious, what would your use be? I cant see a truck as large as the Superduty being used offroad in a way that would need all that, unless it's used in a rugged, rural environment. The reason Toyota's and Jeeps are so popular offroad is thier size, light weight, maneuverability through tight trails or rock crawling. I personally wouldn't take a full size truck anywhere that would require a front locker. A winch can be a useful tool on any vehicle, most would want one for self recovery, on a full size truck I would expect it to be used to recover other vehicles and maybe work related tasks.

RAM 2500 Power Wagons only have a ~1510 lbs payload. Kinda unless for a HD truck.

couple things. first of all, i dont see why you would even ask that question. ford has never offered a powerwagon style of truck. why would they suddenly introduce one next year.

second thing. i went to powerwagon because it made perfect sense. i dont tow alot but wanted all the offroad stuff. it would cost probly 10-15k to equip other trucks with the same items and you still wouldnt have the disconnecting front bar , and most aftermarket winch bumpers look like crap IMO. i like the hidden out of site winch on the wagon

It looks like the most popular off road emergency response vehicle is a freight liner. No a Toyota or a Ford.
