Hmm. This should be interesting. I predicted early on that this would be a $3k-$4k upcharge, but I am basing that on being a true alternative to a diesel for RV towing. Although it is subject to very much debate, I don' believe the 6.2l is a good alternative for any big towing (haters join in three, two, one). If this ends up being a popular alt, for fivers and people in the 8-10k range conventional like me who are driving a diesel, than I would be very hard pressed to believe Ford is going to sell it for basically the same price as LED headlights...
I bet it won't be over 2k. Tops. More likely 1000-1500. Ram 6.4 is a $500 upgrade and the stock GM 6.6 beats the ford 6.2 by a nice margin. Ford can't and won't get greedy. They'll just make the diesel buyers pay even more with them likely crossing the 1000 lb/feet barrier.
The 7.3 was designed to destroy ram and gm in the non-diesel world. Ram 7.0 is 2 years away and GM big block is probably further out if it's coming at all. 2 years to establish the 7.3 as a viable alternative to diesel when the marketplace is demanding just that. Ford doesn't need to overcharge.
I don't think it screams Chevy, while I understand your thinking, but not at the scream level...I would say BUSY...more crossbars than needed to show a new grille, 4 maybe 5 would be better...
OK. Too much chrome, and it's stupid to drop a look once you have it built up. Think BMW and their "angel eyes" look which carried them 15 years.
Ford IS being consistent... SNIP
That is why the C clamps came to be... as a consistent carryover nod to the nostrils that were deleted in the 2011 redesign with the wide flat double horizontal bars aiming to capture the "Super Chief" prototype face.
SNIP...
I've been in countless C-level discussions of how to make something look 'new' but maintain branding. I have a closet full of suits, ties, suspenders that I will NEVER AGAIN wear, God willing.
I can imagine just what happened.
The characters in this dialog are the Exec VP Marketing (EVPM) and the Finance Guy CEO (FGCEO) aka Dilbert's boss on steroids.
EVPM: Here is our new 2020 grill !!
FGCEO: Looks the same. Make it newer.
EVPM: (fights impulse to strangle CEO). What do you have in mind?
FGCEO: I dunno, spice it up a bit, like them new Chevy trucks, some bold LED triangles, whatever
EVPM: (bites his tongue till it bleeds) Our trademark large LED angle brackets aren't bold enough? OK, how about if we cut a racy slice thru them?
FGCEO: Send me renderings
CFO: No incremental budget on this, right? RIGHT?
And so it was written, so it was done, the LED angle brackets got chopped in two so that the Marketing VP didn't quit.
Intake runner length on gassers has a huge effect on low rpm torque. Early TPI 5.7L GM motors had very long runners for low end power. I believe they copied the idea from the earlier Toyota 22RE motor manifold design. Yamaha (in my opinion) perfected the idea in the V6 they designed which went into the first gen Taurus SHO cars with dual runner ‘snake nest’ manifold.
YOU are RIGHT! Should have remembered that from my engine building and racing days. In addition, so does the length of the exhaust runners.
I am not sure anything was copied from Toyota or Yamaha as we were playing with stacked carbs, and Hillborn injectors intakes back in my racing days of the 60's...

If you're old enough (like me) to have been a motorhead in the 60s, then you're certainly old enough to remember the Chrysler Sonoramic cross ram intakes on the B engines. Now those were torque inducing intakes!

Hah! I don't remember that but I sure remember the 440 Wedge in my dad's Charger that he occasionally let me drive. I put an Edelbrock Torker mid-rise intake manifold on my 289 Mustang. 600 cfm Holley quad, float-resistant hydraulic lifters, all that Ford hi-po stuff they sold until the mid 70s emissions cars came out. Remember the fine art of re-curving the spark advance, with weights and springs? That alone seemed to get about 30hp more. Never lost a race in that car. Except the race with that tree....

LOL, YES, some of them were crazy with carbs almost sitting on the fenders feeding the opposite engine banks...

No I have a highly modified C7 ZO6 and that engine was built (LT4) for a completely different application. A close variant of the LT1 used in the base and GS models of the C7 is the 6.2L they put in the half tons have had one of those as well but for the HD series it is N/A.
Talked to a Ford salesman today. His dealership hasn't even previewed the 2020s to the sales force. Wowowowow.
I hope some things happen fairly quickly as I need the tax write off.. Lol
Is there any equipment guys in here that can tell me more about the new CAT tracked skid steer lineup by chance?
I had a purchase order for a CAT 259 tracked skid steer with Cab/Air bought until I found out about the new D3 lineup.
Not surprising since they won't be in production until November. Specs are a ways off. Be patient.
There is an old school of thought that the sales force should not be trained before new product availability. Auto sales being rather old-school, I can see why they'd stick to that. Those of us truck nuts who are more interested can always get new product data here or elsewhere on the web.
