I train Ford dealer technicians on how to install these, among other things.
The DL3Z-15603-C antenna is only for the long range FOBs. It functions completely independently from the Remote Access module, part #: DL3Z-19A390-B.
If you are only adding Remote Access, the separate DL3Z-15603-C antenna is not needed. If you add the antenna without adding long-range FOBs, you've wasted money.
That's how these systems operate. I'm just stating facts here, and trying to help members here understand what is what.
So is the push button start (push button on dash) fob considered a long range fob??
Bonus question: Is there a setting to auto lock the truck after you walk away?
Great thread!
I appreciate all you guys' knowledge! Coming to a 17 from an '06 in a few weeks!
An American has enough common sense to make sure the canoe is on land so the woman is comfortable and feels safe. The gun is merely for her protection while undressed on land.
Its better to keep the woman in the boat out on the water, "because of the implication."
The alarms from Banner Auto are a great deal and pretty straight forward. I also purchased a back up alarm from Bobby at a discounted rate. In addition, those who have not yet pulled the trigger on a new Super Duty their prices are pretty reasonable as well.
No it is not. The remote start on the key fob itself is always short range and engineered to be short range on purpose.
Not that I've seen, but then again I'm not up to speed on all the changes and quirks for 17's.
I want to lock long range, not start.
(I'm coming from an '06 with a key and a remote)
I get that I'll have phone capability, but how far will the key-remote-fob-thingy allow me to lock/unlock (arm/disarm?)
Thanks.

As I said, the key itself is not engineered to be long range like the separate long-range remote start FOB kits.
The long-range remote start FOBs only do remote start (with the bi-directional doing remote start and panic). Those have an advertised range of 1000 feet. Those do not have the lock/unlock/etc on them.
The key you got with the truck that includes lock/unlock/trunk(tailgate)/remote start/panic is basically a "short range" key, with a Ford advertised range of 300 feet. Doesn't matter if you have PEPS (push button start) or not.
There isn't a way to extend the range of the key. If you want more range to remote start, you can add on the long-range kit and carry around another FOB. Or if you don't like the idea of carrying around another FOB to remote start, you can add the Remote Access kit and use your cell phone. But you cannot extend the range of the key itself, which means the key will only reach a certain distance to lock/unlock the truck.

Thanks Curtis for the explanation.
THAT is what I was looking for.
Hopefully pick her up 6/13...
I have to give some major credit to Banner Ford Auto. I ordered the security and remote access modules from them yesterday at noon and in less than 24 hours they have been delivered today at 10:30am. Hats off to Banner Auto and FedEx!
For those that have not installed yet. I just did mine last week and figured I would share my pictures to help give you ideas on mounting. I will warn you that it is a pain in that *** to get it mounted in this location but you won't find a better more factory looking spot. Also I used a aftermarket alarm led due to wanting a brighter light. Also I would like to point out a few things that I was unsure before I installed. When you receive text alerts it does differentiate between shock sensor and the door opening. But if you have motion sensors from factory it will pick those up as a door opening as well. Last thing is for those that are wondering you can temperorarly disable the shock sensor very easily by putting your foot on the brake and pushing lock button on key fob.
