Great news on getting the engine back from the machine shop Adam! I still think you should run the engine in your truck now until it just gives out! LOL! Just to see how long it will go!
While your waiting I can break your engine in and make sure it will run well for the first 100,000..😆
Is there a drawback to over-valve springing your engine?
More cam wear from the higher spring rate and more valve and seat wear due to higher closing force. I don't know how significant the wear is unless you have some real crazy springs. I don't see the need to run near or over redline with our trucks and I think the stock springs are fine. But I'm a long way from being in my 20's.

Gotcha I was just wondering. Valve springs probably aren't in the picture for a good while for me... I asked because I was curious.

The engine Im getting rebuild had 4xx,xxx miles and the valves were worn out badly except the seat, none were salvageable Im guessing around those miles we need to get the valve train worked on but thats just my case on tgis particular engine.
So I did an oil change and the knock is not present? The oil smelled like propane gas WTF? Thought it was weird, the oil didnt look bad at all nice and dark honey, same ol Rotella 15w-40 dino oil, just found it odd for it to smell like propane, makes me think compression is getting past the rings and or broken piston, but truck still has lots of power, but its starting to smoke more black smoke than ever, its embarrasing trying to take off on stop lights when theres a car with his window rolled down, he/she gets a plum of thick black smoke inside their vehicle and them doing their repugnant look, shame on me the smoke smells like raw diesel with oil in the mix.
Hopefully I dont do any damage to the injectors, as they are going to be reused.
