Adam, those boost numbers are just a hair lower than mine were with the stock turbo and upgraded wheel. I'd say you are close. Mine hit 35psi. As for boosting slower, are you sure it is? I suppose the weak motor could take longer to build boost means things aren't quite right anyway.
I remember I had a small boost leak on the passenger side plenum, and I know something is wrong more black smoke than it use to, but what the hey, I said I was going to roll like that till it blew, if God permits me, in two weeks Im taking a 400 mile round trip ill document fuel miliage, and oil consumption.
More black smoke could be caused by low compression not burning off the fuel.
I think you're worrying to much about a engine that's getting replaced. Lol
Ok fellers, just came back from the machine shop, hes hone the cylinders but #5 might need a sleeve, theres a grove 1/4" from the block deck that is felt if you slide your fingers on the cylinder wall. The heads are done and look good, no pics though I was in a rush, he said it will be done by the end of week, hopefully!! I do have pics of the piston rods and pistons, I have to take it to another machine shop for the rod bushings due to him not having the correct size of tool?
Heres some pics of the piston rods and the two pistons that cause the damage
Pieces of piston rings, as you can see on pic 2 there are pieces still lodged in there
I was checking my front bearings and front suspension components for any wear and lifted my truck from the frame and would really love my truck to look like this, I got a guy in mexico capable of fabricating drop brackets for it, heres how I would like it to look like
Adam, this is just me, but if I were going to sleeve one cylinder, I would sleeve them all. Sleeve all 8 and go back to the factory 4.11 bore is the best way to build a higher HP engine anyway I have heard.
Problem is I already have the pistons, and yes I would of been nice to pick up a 4X4 but I cannot justify the use for one.
Just for the hey of it heres a pic of one for sale in my town in good condition, 96 f250 4X4 auto 7.3 4.10 gears with some after market 17" wheels and what looks to be a 100+ gallon aux fuel tank with electric pump for $4,700 OBO zero rust.

That's a nice looking truck! Wonder how many miles are on it. We have to have 4x4s here. Not only for the winter (which my dually doesn't get driven in the snow and salt), but also because here in the mountains, some of the places we go to haul stuff on trailers, you just about have to 4x4 to get in and out of some of these places.
