I just called the service manager here in Georgia and he knew nothing about it. I gave him the SSM number and he's going to check it out for me.

OK, he checked it out and see's that new brake pads are coming out but it doesn't show a part number. If or when you get this done please post the part number so I can give it to the manager.

Thanks.

Speaking of OASIS, read the one about tire feathering? According to the report, the tires come with "feathered" edges from the Continental factory and smooth out with mileage accumulation.

I was directed by someone to this thread about the brakes, door rattle and shimmy. Here is my experience on 12-19-03

Here is an update to my original post, I went into my dealer with all the problems I stated earlier.

1. Steering wheel wobble at freeway speed (65+ mph)

They said they balanced and rotated all four tires, problem seems to be gone so far

2. Front driver side window is rattling over bumps, seems loose.

They said they retightened the door panel and such, did not fix the problem. It's the window!!! I will have to take a tech on a test drive and let them hear it.

3. That brake dust issue, most people have on 03 Expy's

What was I expecting, of course the service guy says it's a common occurance. It's a large truck it's going to do that, BLAH, BLAH, BLAH. Well you know this is going to get nasty!!! Is there a TSB for this problem? If so what's the number so I can show these guys. I should not spend the money for new pads!!! Please help in our plight to prove "Quality should be Job 1"

4x4_expo...

There is no TSB but there is a SSM (pg 2 I believe). Tell them to go to their computer, open OASIS, and enter your VIN number. Then look at the SSM list. They will see it, I had the same reaction from my dealership at first until they learned I was correct that there was a problem.

Do they replace the brakes free of charge? My dealer is full of excuses when it comes to my crappy tires. I have gotten to the point where I don't care if my tires blow up now.

My local dealer is now aware of the SSM and said that when they get the pads in, they will warranty the change up to 12/12.

Only 12/12?

Ford will only warrentee the pads up to 12 months or 12,000? My Expy is 5 months old and I have 16,000 miles on it and the wheels have been dirty since day one! Why should I be left out if the pads were not available until now?
I have the SSM # and I am going to Ford tomorrow morning.

I got my pads put on saturday, turned rotors, rotated tires, changed wiper fluid bottle (sensor broke), replaced seat/window memory module (wasn't resetting properly), replaced headlamp (seal broke), replaced trim on rear radio (paint flaked).

Total cost: $0. My Expy is 7 months old with 10K miles.

Brakes work great, no observed dust yet.

Can someone give me a part # for the brake pads? I am pushing 10,000 miles and my dealer said he could do if he had a part #.

Thanks in advance.

I contacted a Ford Dealer this morning, gave them SSM# 16808, they said they could not find anything. Then gave them 17247, he quoted the message verbatim

2003 Expedition/Navigator - Accumulation of brake dust on the wheels /> /> "Under regular operating conditions, customers may notice accumulation of brake dust on the wheels of their 2003 Expedition/Navigator vehicles. Some amount of brake dust is inevitable as brakes wear. Dust can be cleaned by weekly washing with motorcraft detail wash (zc-3-a) and a soft sponge. Heavier deposits can be removed with motorcraft wheel and tire cleaner (zc-37-a). A low-dust service brake lining (pad) is being developed via the quicker service fix (QSF) process for customers who may find this accumulation objectionable. The new lining is expected to be available durring the late fourth quarter of 2003. Do not replace any components in an attempt to address this condition in the interm untill the new lining is available.

THe service advisor spoke with a technician and said they are not yet available. so maybe they are aware. But I do not know if they are really not available. So if they are available and some one has had it done already. How do I get this done? Is anyone out there from Southern California. We need to get this done ASAP.

Hello,

This thread has been a tremendous help. Thank you to all!!

I just called my dealer and said that he is aware of the ssm and needs to research the part. Once he has the part number he will order it and will perform the fix as warranty!

So...anyone have a part number..please provide so I can let me dealer know.

Thanks and Happy Holidays!

Just got a call from the service manager and he did receive a set of new pads. He thinks they are new pads because the have a different part number but is having difficulty in confirming if this will satisfy the SSM.

If someone can confirm the part# he will schedule my Expo for the replacement.

The member "007sbcglobal" that had it just done in Sacramento..look on your invoice for the part number of the pads...or can someone email 007sbcglobal for the part number..I can't as I have not been a member long enough.

Thanks

SSM #17247. I am guessing this is the part#:

1 2 L1Z*2001*BA KIT-BRK SHU & LNG FRT

That's the way it is typed on my invoice.
Good luck.
