16808 - 2003 Expedition/Navigator - Accumulation of Brake Dust on Wheels
Under regular operating conditions, customers may notice accumulation of brake dust on wheel of their 2003 Expedition/Navigator vehicles. Some amount of brake dust is inevitable as brakes wear. Dust can be cleaned by weekly washing with motorcraft detail wash (ZC-3_a) and a soft sponge. Heavier deposits can be removed with motorcraft wheel and tire cleaner (ZC-37-A). A low-dust service brake lining (pad) is being developed via the quicker service fix (QSF) process for customers who may find this accumulation objectionable. The new lining is expected to be available during the late fourth quarter of 2003. Do not replace any components in an attempt to address this condition in the interim until the new lining is available.
As of 11/10/03, my local ford dealer manager said there has been no update on the new pads...
No, the new pads arn't available yet. Call your dealer every week or so and ask if the new pads are available for the 03 Expedition. If they are clueless tell them to look on Oasis and see the special service message for instructions.
Purchased a new 04 EB expy last friday. Drove it this weekend for about 250 miles and the rims were full of brake dust. At this rate I'll have to clean the wheels every couple of days!!! Everything else is good...Love the truck so far...
My truck is in the shop right now. 6th day so far. I told them to change the pads and when I called for status updates they didn't list the pads as not completed.
I had a wheel replaced on my '03 EXPY FX4 this past Friday (due to the well known shake), and the manager still had no updates on the replacement pads. He said, by Christmas. But the shake is now gone!
From what i have hear the EBC Green stufff and Red stuff brake pads are som of the best out there. I havent heard much on the carbon fiber brakes but am interested. I completely agree that going cheap on brakes and tires puts everyone at risk. I understand you guys would like this service to be under warrenty but why not just go ahead and buy a better aftermarket pair?
