Hah you guys will never believe this! i got a line on an Allison 1000 5sp for $200ish with 165k on it out of a duramax 20 min from me! I'm going to contact the guy tonight to see if it's still available.
Tell me about it, between this and the engine I'm only at $800 lol! Just need to build everything. The tranny has no issues btw the guy swapped it for a 6 spd one.
Cummins/Allison 400hp swap budget of 2g! lol no more than that most likely
Lost the transmission it was an ebay bid and he cut it short on me before i could bid on it...so pissed i could have had a cheap one that works well. Oh well the search will still continue.
EDIT: thinking about it more in depth i am going to stick the the 4r100 and have it built to handle around 450hp to be safe if i am aiming for the 400hp mark. Are there any upgrades i can do myself or should i just look to something like a BTS 4r100 instead?

Even with the 7.3 the weakest post was always the 4r100. The 5r110 solved most of that, but I would definitely get at minimum a diesel trans, the 5.4 will disintegrate under 400/800.
Yeah, the 4r100 I currently jave will stay with the 5.4l they are paired for life. I thought about a 5r110 but the pcs controller I wiuld need isn't ironed out yet as far as shift points from what I see. Personally its either allison or 4r100 right now.
Thinking about a Allison 1000 6 speed, I would do a ZF6 if i had room and didn't need to relocate my fuse box else where becasue i have room to stretch in this truck unlike my 95 lol. I am trying to weigh the pro's and cons of both a built auto and a ZF6 with a good clutch that can hold the power.
Auto (allison or 4r100)
-No shifting through traffic...traffic sucks in the 95 but it doesn't have the low gear.
-Costs a ton to properly build to hold the power and torque i plan to attain
-fast shifting
-Can build custom floor console to place fuse panel in
Manual (ZF6)
-Fun to drive IMO
-good for towing/hauling and if i ever have to tow anything it's going to be with this truck
-slower to go through gears
-can manually select gears for better MPG or worse if i rip it lol.
-Have to find a new spot for the fuse panel than my original plan.
This truck will basically be driven for fun as a DD and for occasional hauling so what's your thoughts on this? i think for DD and fun an auto is best but a manual is ok for DDing and good for hauling so its like a 50/50 split to me lol.
I know I hate driving my 95 in traffic my only thing is the cost because a zf6 with a good clutch will cost say 1600 and a built auto will be about 4000 and say I get 300,000 a manual the most I'll need is a new clutch every so often. Unless I'm underestimating a built auto and how long it will last lol.
Whats the difference between a diesel amd gas 4r100? Are there upgrades I can do that will make it hold the power I am anticipating?

Not sure about the upgrades but I do believe the Gas transmissions have a different bell housing.
Instead of the ZF6 I was more thinking the NV5600 which came with the engines. Could save money on adapter plates and such. Check out the Excursion build up with ZF6 and Cummins though. Pretty sweet build.
I'm assuming the TC is different as well since the gas engines are not as powerful, i was reading up on it and the case might be different as well so gas and diesel parts can not be interchanged.
Very true, i am getting swayed towards a stick lol either ford or dodge tranny. cost for the four in consideration will be the following:
4r100:
adapter plate $795
PCS controller $800
Built Tranny $3-4k
Total:$4595-$5595
Allison
built to hold my power 2-3k depending on how good a shape i get the original in
adapter $795
stand alone controller $1500
Total: $4295-$5295
ZF6
Adapter Plate $795
Transmission $1000 (estimated)
Clutch to hold my anticipated power $900-$1000
Total: $2695-$2795
(this will also require some wiring to get working properly but completely doable)
Dodge manual:
Adapter plate $200-$300 (engine doesnt have it the PO kept it for his p-pump engine)
Transmission $1000 (estimated)
Clutch $900-1000
Total:$1200-$1400
(also will require wiring to work properly)
I am keeping in mind i have 2 other cars lol so the Expedition is my main DDer the truck is going to be for fun and for hauling mainly and in the summer when i want to take it to work (7 mile drive). The 95 will be my winter beater/work horse mainly and the heavy stuff will be left for the 04 if I'm not goofing off lol.
