Here is a basic recipe for the legendary apple pie moonshine. It’s really easy to make, and you don’t even need moonshine (though you can’t really call it apple pie moonshine if you don’t use moonshine.)
Ingredients:
1 gallon apple cider
1 gallon apple juice
3 cups white sugar
8 cinnamon sticks
1 liter bottle of 190 proof moonshine or grain alcohol
Directions
In a large stock pot, combine the apple cider, apple juice, sugar, and cinnamon sticks.
Bring it to a boil, then take it off the heat and allow it to cool.
Add the liter of high proof liquor.
Pour this into mason jars, put the lids on, and let it mellow out. You could drink it right away, but it does get better after a couple of weeks.
This recipe makes about 9 quarts of apple pie moonshine. You could easily cut this recipe in half if that is too much.
Warning! Apple pie moonshine will sneak up on you! This stuff is so smooth and tasty. Use with CAUTION!
Note On Alcohol:
To make apple pie moonshine, you can use 190 proof grain alcohol like Everclear or you can use moonshine if you can find it. Most of the moonshine that you’ll find has been cut down to about 80 proof. If that’s the case, then you’ll have to add a little more than twice as much 80 proof moonshine, about 2.5 liters, to get the same alcohol content as when you use grain alcohol. That is unless you know for a fact it is 190 proof (in which case you probably know the dude that made it.)

I do remember a few years back?? along about the time they started dyeing the fuel a bunch of people having major issues with putting the dyed fuel into their on road pickups, mostly the logging industry guys. I remember they had to be towed to the dealer and getting re-flashed or something to that affect and there where injector issues. the problem could have been just bad fuel, it just seems strange that the fuel they put into the trucks was the same fuel they where using in all of their off rd logging equipment and those things ran fine on it. I should add that it wasn't Ford specific, I recall some Durmax trucks where involved too. I don't remember any dodge/cummins engines included but then again this isn't dodge country.

Although I'm inclined to go along with you I sure would like to see someone else putting it in their truck and running it for a little while.....I don't see how the sulfur in the fuel can be anything but good for the fuel system on any diesel...........BUT the dye may play into the injector issues they were supposedly having. Not meaning to be argumentative I just tend to be a little over cautious with the 6.0. It has been a while (years actually) since I heard the 'legend' so it probably was just a myth. It really may never be an issue but I do live about 25mi. from the nearest fuel stop and once I stop my earthwork in the fall I may not get out of town to get fuel as much as I do now.
Don't know for sure but the fuel filters on heavy equipment always tend to be rather healthy. I know the fuel filters on the old Cat dozer (both of em) where bigger than the one on the Cat powered big rig that we used to pull it. I also remember a separate water separator on the dozer.

True, I have put the dyed fuel in my Mack dump truck a time or two without incident but that is an 86 all mechanical fuel system engine, the system uses a pump to pressurize the injector NOZZLES so it is a very different setup compared to the fuel system on the diesel pickups of late. I may be way off base here concerning the dyed fuel in the pickups I discussed in my earlier posts, but again I would like to see someone else put it in and run it out of their truck before I take the plunge.
I scraped some gasket surfaces with a chunk of wood yesterday. I am pretty much waiting right now for enough funds to make an order for everything. This truck came along at a bad time really but it was one of those deals you just can't pass up. I have all my funds invested in trucks and projects right at the moment. As soon as I sell the toyota I can continue on the 6.0, or if I finished my customers bike, or some nice paying fast job comes in the door. lol
I started in on this before I had the funds ready because I wanted to get the boat anchor apart first and see what parts I would all need before sending out the order. I figured I would have the other truck sold by the time I needed to order but I guess that wasn't in the cards. I could use my line of credit at the bank for it but I am not a debt kind of guy.
On a plus note, I got my first good look at the bottom sides of the heads when cleaning them yesterday and everything looks perfect! Injector tips, glow plug tips, valves, old gasket marks, all look perfecto.
HAHA, I thought about updating it just last night when I was putting in the first of many orders for the 6.0. But I figured I wouldn't bring it back up until I sent out the main order and was gonna get really rollin on the motor and putting it back in.
Last night I ordered the lifters and one lifter guide box thingy. It isn't much but it is enough to get me back to the block being together with branch tube and rear plate and flywheel and whatnot on.
As for the rest of the stuff I am waiting for something to sell or business to pick up so I can send out the $1300+ order. Always lots of money going out this time of year and not much coming in. Soon hopefully I can get stuff coming and get back to work again. I will post up anyhow when the lifters and box and stuff comes in and I get something done anyhow.
