So im planning on doing headgaskets and arps in the next few months. While im in there ive thought about doing a few things. One is changing out the push rods to the newer shorter style. Im curious my motor is a 03 version with 210k on it. Im planning on 350k+ at least. But does it hurt anything to swap the push rods now? Or is that somthing you do on a rebuild. Thanks

If you are doing studs, gaskets, and push rods I would want to do the lifters as well. Mainly because with the shorter push rods the lifters will be wearing in a new spot and I can see that causing trouble a few months or years down the road and it is not a job you want to do twice.

Didnt mean to hijack the thread. But I read a discussion on the shorter pushrods a page or so back. And I didnt know if you could change the rods or if it was wise. Kinda like not changing horses mid stream. Thanks for the answers.

New head gaskets came with stand pipes AND dumby plugs!

Also new front cover gasket came with water pump o-ring, some thick little o-ring, and a new front seal!

By golly I think I may have everything I need!

The small o-ring may be for the lpop relief valve or possibly the heater hose tube....that's all I can think of.

I think it is for a heater hose. When I lifted up and flipped over the front cover an old one just like it fell to the floor. Came from a spot near the thermostat I think.

Did some stuff today because I just wanted to do something with it.

New lifters lubed up and installed.

Branch tube installed.

Rear cover installed.

HPOP cover installed.

Daughter poses.

Waiting for yellow tape now.

Oh yeah, the new lifters fit the boxes tighter than the old ones did.

Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

Must just be machined a tad larger on the box end. Not so tight that I worry about it, just an observation.

On the branch tube and fitting, how come when searching for STC fitting and branch tube I only see that bolt together fitting everywhere and never see any talk or mention of the type of branch tube I have?

Looks like the 6.0 IPR is almost exactly the same as the 7.3 IPR. I think I will order 7.3 IPR orings and see if they fit.

Because that type of branch tube rarely fails and usually only due to it rubbing on the cover, which has an updated "groove" machined into it. Kind of pricey though......

I do have a part # for just the IPR screen: IPR Valve Screen 3C3Z-9H529-A Not sure if it has the O-rings included though.

Yeah I saw that part number on the IPR kit on ebay. But it was something like $36 for 3 orings and the screen. I believe the 7.3 IPR kit was around $15. I will be checking into it more here in a few minutes.

My IPR screen and main oring are in good shape and I wouldn't hesitate to use it like it is but the smaller green o-ring has been stressed and is the one I would like to replace.

I was mistaken on the dumby plugs earlier. The head gaskets came with stand tubes and their top counterpart that screws in the holds them in place. No dumby plugs. They are cheap so when I make up another "missing parts" order I will throw them in there.

Expected yellow tape is the 22nd.
