Why would they have to be reflashed? What makes an on road pickup different than off road machinery? They both require clean fuel. The off road fuel killing trucks is a lot of urban legend if your ask me.
in calif. it's #2 ULSD, the exact same product sold from the on
road pump. it comes from the same fuel manifold, and when they
load the fuel bowser, they meter in dye.
the ONLY difference is that there aren't any road taxes paid on the
fuel, and that is why it's dyed. it won't destroy o rings, set engine
codes, cause global warming, or give your grandparents indigestion.
it doesn't take much in the tank to color the whole tank red. if you
get caught on road with a red tank, the fine is about $5,000 in calif.
usually urban areas don't have people checking on the fuel with a
dipstick, with one exception... heavy equipment operators with
a bed tank and a pump for fueling will sometimes be targeted, as
they sometimes will fuel their road vehicle with red tank.
if you have red tank in your tank, the best way to get rid of it, is
simply to run the tank as low as you can, and fill up with #2 diesel.
do it a second time, and you should be able to pass a dip test nicely.
fuel systems that have a regulated return are a problem, as the fuel
in the system will keep returning to the tank and staining the new
fuel... takes quite a few more tanks to dilute the dye.
i used to work as a project manager for a road building and sewer
construction company, and the field guys would sometimes top off
their tanks from the 10K fuel bowser on the job that was used for
fueling the scrapers and track hoes.
until one day, everyone leaving the job got pulled over at the gate as
soon as their wheels hit pavement, and dipped. over a dozen company
vehicles were cited, at $5k a pop.
so yes, using red tank can cause severe damage.
to the wallet.
I am not to worried about the dyed diesel. I was just a bit worried about it from the beginning because I knew years ago it was different.

Up here in Wa, they pull fuel in truck stops, and large farms etc. I don't think very many people with diesel LT trucks and passenger cars ever get "checked"..........
How's that rebuild coming?
I am on the iboat forum!

The rebuild is just sitting around till parts start coming in. I have some other work to catch up on anyhow.
You must hang out on the iboats.com forum!!
There was probably someone there that DIDN'T put that fuel in their truck and then maybe "ratted"?

Great tear down Snow, and looking forward to seeing you put it back together.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
I would be kind of reluctant to allow them to do it without an actual warrant.
I also wouldn't run the stuff either. You'd be in evading BOTH state AND Federal taxes.
After the state got through with you the Feds would go to work!

Beside the oil pump, water pump, and front cover gasket anything engine wise I am missing here? I am hoping I don't have to do the nipple o-rings but I will wiggle them and see how they feel. Hope its big enough to see.
Yeah, I have both heads pulled to install lifters.
They are cheaper on all of the OEM stuff.
