You're going to absolutely HATE me. NONE, and I mean virtually NONE of the cylinder firing rings looked breached at all on all eight cylinders. This thread should be a perfect testament to how long have head studs and OEM Ford gaskets can make these engines run for. They actually look to be in PERFECT condition.
Aw man,,,, that's beautiful. No hate at all. That means I don't need any serious machining huh. Clean em n go???
Yeah, that's nice. I'm not too upset about the tear down. I'm basically gonna get to refresh the engine for about as cheap as possible huh?
Btw, the heads were done 500k ago by a good friend (that just happens to be a master diesel tech) that has since passed away. He let me help some with it. But 500k!!!! Beautiful job Ed!!!!!
K, I know it's hard to see, but now I'm wondering if my cam will survive.
Not sure if it shows up, but that lobe looks like it is completely grooved. Evenly tho, it just looks like its got a lip on both sides of it. If it is grooved, it's evenly grooved
Just to show something could you slide the oil dipstick and tube back
in and show a photo of how far it sticks down into the pan? The reason
I was thinking this was the guy that has the broken dipstick. I just wanted to see how far under the windage tray it sticks. While your at it does the pan have an baffles?

And yet again, you are going to absolutely HATE me for telling this, but those cam lobes SO FAR, look completely normal to me.
Are those burnt marks normal. It is on all the thinner parts. Not on the outer, thicker things. Lol yeah I have no idea about the terminology of it.
Yes, those "burn" marks as you call it, are also completely normal. Those are the factory heat treating marks as indicated in one of the 6.0L Coffee Table books.
I do appreciate the effort you are going through, and I know just how much you have put in with your own time and money. What's really great is the time you are taking to note your progress and share it with all of us.
I can't give you enough reps. Some of these photos are really helping me understand some of the parts of the engine I haven't seen before.
Can anyone help me get Anthony some reps. After all this he should be up around 5 or 6 little green beans!!!
I'm doing all this posting on my phone. I'm kinda post happy huh? Sorry guys for that. You all should've never showed me how to post pics. Lol. Can't remember the last time I logged in on the comp
Thx piolet!!!! It sux to have no idea what something looks like that I own. Let alone how it works. I'm gonna keep on tho, can't tear much more apart,,, lol. It's gotta go back together sometime.
Well Anthony, it's getting a little late for me, but I am finding your thread extremely entertaining if nothing else. To me, it blows my mind that you are investing this much work, time and money into your truck. Not too many people would.
If you do get as far as removing the crank (and I don't think you will), DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT touch the six what I call DO NOT F*** WITH BOLTS. You know, the six that secure the adaptor flange to the rear of the crank? Because if you do, that crank is garbage at that point.
But I also know you won't be able to get that far because of the way you have your engine secured to your stand.
Thx for the heads up on the bolts. I priced the crank last night, Prob a more expensive place, but it was $2500. I ain't touching those If it didn't send em off balance, I'd paint em gold. Lol. Thx mchan and all of you. It's extremely beneficial to have a network like you all that I can fall back on if, and when I get stuck on something.
