Eating should be a joy rather than something where you have to watch every mouth full. Other societies are not as fat and they manage to eat well. I think some of it is the whole way we approach eating. We eat "fast" food that is wolfed down without really even tasting it. At work lunch(dinner) is on the go or within a short time. At that point food is fuel not something to be enjoyed. In many homes it is hard even to get everyone around a table to eat a meal. Much of our food is processed and not scratch made and healthy foods such as salads, fish, vegetables are expensive.
i hear ya man, this stuff is no joke! hard to do in our modern world!. i had to just flat-out turn the frame of reference around. In my little world, I define what's normal now! {look at meh, look at meh, i am de captian now! lolol} I let everyone else have the job of judging my diet and exercise as "crazy, too intense, lacking fun, too hard, too much work, not enough flavor, takes too long..." blah blah i've heard it all lol! That's their judgement, and that's ok, as a matter of fact it motivates me a little bit lol! It is soooooo satisfying when somebody who had once passed judgement on me finally tells me i'm doing a good job. everything external just motivates me now, I turned the frame of ref around 180* ... now, I just need to keep doing it, which is hard too lol

You guys have no idea how much this thread has helped me!

actually i'm thinking now, the only thing that stands in my way nowadays is myself. when I get down about my diet, it's just my brain saying "you're tired, you don't need to do this, just skip the workout this week and pick up donuts on the way to work" ... I fight with things like this al the time lol! but then I typically finish my workout, have some eggwhites and juiced veggies, and kick *** the rest of the day. But the struggle is real! and you guys help me remember, especially sitting here at work when cheeseburgers are floating in my eyes lol, i can get on here and see if yall have posted. the cheeseburgers are soon forgotten and I'm back on track!

From what I could tell it was because we were eating "convenience" foods. Fast food, chips, cookies, candy, bagged\boxed\processed foods that require little to no prep to get from the package to our mouths.

We're trying to find a happy medium now by dieting during the week and "relaxing" on the weekends by opening up our food options to comfort foods that will give us a break from the restricted selection during the week. It's great that we're losing weight from the diet, but more importantly it's forcing us to prepare fresh meals instead of living out of chip bags.

As for the expense part, I feel like most healthy foods are fairly priced. The dozen burgers and brats I cooked last night with veggie side was probably around $15 total and the meat portion will feed us for at least one more meal. If we went to a fast food place it would be closer to $20, $35+ at a sit down restaurant. The big difference is the time it takes to prepare it for consumption. We are strapped for time everyday and taking a full hour to prep, cook, eat, and clean up after a meal seems like a steep piece of time to give up in comparison to a 15 minute drive-thru stop.
I'd love to hear how you guys balance your week day diets vs the weekend diet! that continues to be very difficult to me!

My eating habits have changed from my daily steak and salad, because I have been going home for lunch. While it is wonderful to get to spend some one on one time with my wife, it might also be the fault in my diet. My wife runs a daycare, so if she has made something like garlic bread and spaghetti, the smell lingers, and it's really hard to ignore it and eat a salad and the same old meal.
Yesterday was burritos... my arch nemesis, before that was tacos, garlic mashed potatoes, etc... all those things that linger in the air when you walk in, just add to the hunger.
You get the point.
I hate to miss the opportunity to spend the time with the wife, so I am torn.

i get the point indeed! last time i visited my parents, mom made pumpkin pies, multiple punpkin pies... ohhhh i coauld smell it before i got in the house! between that and the cornbread, I ate more carbs in one day than I usually do on a week! Not much I can do though. like i'm gonna turn down food that my mom made. i'm making myself lol, lol
...i do a fair job at NOT gorging when i visit, but sometimes that demon on my shoulder does make a good point about how another plate wont kill me....

Works out well for Jamie and I since we are on the same diet. We do cook some sweets and carby foods just for the boys and the leftovers usually keep them held over for a while.

Weighed in at 229 yesterday, woohoo! Came in at 228.2 this morning so I think my loss has pretty much come to a halt. I'll eat keto today but then we typically go normal diet on Fri\Sat so I imagine I'll end up in the low 230's, but least it usually comes right back off the next couple days.

Last night we made instant pot keto "crack" chicken, cheesy garlic keto biscuits, and I grilled up a large chicken breast and kielbasa for quick meaty snacks. This morning I made some keto bagels and HOLY COW they were actually good. Quite the pain to mix melted mozzarella and cream cheesy without it turning into a massive ball, but I was still able to knead through it and add in the rest of the ingredients. Jamie thought it was a home run too so I may have to start making a weekly batch.

I dropped 3 lbs by Tuesday, but then last night was a school fundraiser at Taco John's..... Guess what... I am sure you don't even have to think much about it.

I had mostly turkey and veggies from the veggie tray-- but I did cheat with a spoonful of green-bean casserole. After all it was thanksgiving.

I fell off the wagon, it ran over me three times, did a burn out, and left tread marks on my forehead then it left a spare tire round my mid section. I got a lot of back peddling to do to get to 201 again.
