I haven't read all of the articles, but I am seeing lots of headlines recently about the dangers of the Keto Diet, especially long term. I haven't researched the Keto diet to know what it is, and /or if that is more or less what I am doing by accident, but I feel good, I have weight loss like I am hoping for, and I have more energy now than in years past. I am taking vitamins, and try to mix in a little veggies every few days other than the salad that I eat daily.
From what I can see in our keto groups is that most of the headlines are knee-jerk reactions from doctors that don't use any hard evidence to back it up. There are guys in the group that have been doing keto for 2+ years and have amazing lab work results come back when they're being tested on the medical front. I know personally my weight loss would have NEVER been possible without this diet, I know this for a fact because I've tried diets for the past couple decades and have never been able to shake more than 15 lbs with any diet.
With that being said, Jamie and I are both getting "tired" of it after several months. We're slipping more the past few weeks and have been indulging in some healthy, higher carb foods that we cutting out earlier. I think I'm going to settle out on a modified diet that consists of keeping my carbs low but still avoiding breads, starchy vegetables, and sweets. I've been watching my weight like a hawk every day still and have noticed that it hasn't come up at all, it just bounces back and forth between the same 3 lb. range.
I can see why most people gain the weight right back if the quit the diet, the carbs I used to eat daily was clearly why I ended up at my peak weight. I have come to learn, IMO, that carbs really are the enemy and healthy fats should not be feared.
At least that is all how I see the world at this point, feel free to discuss!

and that, gentlemen, is basically my diet!!! I focus on natural proteins and unsaturated fats that I can digest easily, and natural carb sources with as much fiber and other non-caloric nutrients as possible. and those carb sources tend to not be 'carb bombs' anyway lol
other than my reward donut today (lol), the only carb-dense food i'll eat today is a slice out of a baked sweet potato. and that coincided with my immediate post workout meal. those carbs were soaked up within the hour. by 2 hours later my stomach was ready for my blueberries and protein shake.
and then my spring greens salad with avacado and boiled eggs
and then my chicken breast and mixed veggies
and later tonight, cod fish and probably whatever leftover salad or veggeis we have in the fridge!
tonight i will likely have some homemade popcorn. i'll have to write down the actual nutritional content of it. i should have done that a long time ago.
I gained 15 lbs since my last diet ended- but I went Full on "I don't give a poop" for awhile-- So now I am back to 249 :-( SO back on the diet until my birthday in Dec.
Justin I know full well about the "tired of it" aspect of the diet-- Hence the full on don't care mode. I lost a total of 61 lbs and only gained back 15 so I am considering it a full on success-- and when I am down around 220 I will feel allot better overall. I was on a high fat content last time-- this time I am thinking more greens and less fatty meat-- and no consecrated fat like pork rinds. And keeping pork and beef to a minimum-- also going with portion control a little better.-- Riding the excer bike will help too.
I weighed in at 203.7 this morning after a week of vacation, time to jump back on the diet again. I was hoping to come back below 200, because I feel I was very active, but all I ate was junk food while we were gone, so it makes sense that I would be heavier.

this weekend, i ate like 5 cookies and i felt incredibly guilty lol
so this weekend, my wife came home with a buttload of shrimp and some strip steaks. she wanted to contribute to the festivities as we were going to visit my sister at the lake. it was neat cause we got to share our grilled shrimp recipe. Also neat cause all of us there actually like steak rare to medium rare haha! i was afraid i was gonna have to ruin a couple of them and cook them really well
anyway, the steak was tasty, but man o man my stomach does not like to digest red meat. all day yesterday i ate salad and soup trying to get regular again
I don't feel too guilty, after all it was vacation. I could have come back 10 lbs heavier, especially since we took lots of snack food, because it would keep better on the trail, rather than fresh meats and fruits and veggies. We had planned a three day trail and taking ice and keeping food fresh was likely out of the question. I took canned foods like tuna, Peanut butter, Individual packages of Jelly like they leave on the table at restaurants, Individual packets of mayo like they offer at sandwich shops, etc.. It all worked out very well. We did eat out at the restaurants a lot at Ouray and on the road.
i start feeling like crap after a day or two of eating stuff that isn't on my normal menu. in a way it makes it difficult, but it also makes it easy for me... hard to find & keep the fresh type foods on the road, but easy to pass on the goodies. one thing that i really do miss sometimes is just eating my favorite foods in large quantities on the road. Specifically, my thing used to be hunting out hole in the wall restaurants that sold down-home dishes like chicken fried steaks or fried pies, etc. Sometimes i'd strike gold! I also liked to smoke cigarettes and drink beer while i was driving. I quit that for obvious reasons lol! none of that gives me the 'reward' like it used to. Now the reward is getting up without pain, breathing deep without coughing, pooping regular (lol), and staying active enough to do the goofy things i like to do. I still tend to overeat, but i nearly immediately regret it lol, my stomach talks back more than it did before hahaha!
Could have been less, but I marinated steaks for a few days and threw them on the charcoal grill. The first one tasted so good, I just had to eat another.
i was having trouble not eating everything in the house last night lol! after i finished a mess of apples and peanut butter, i just had to get up and go play guitar until bedtime. that's my go-to if i'm not terribly tired. if im terribly tired, i usually am too lazy to get up and prepare something else to eat anyway
