I pulled the old exhaust manifold. I ran a sanding block across it. Yup, sure enough, it was warped bad. Then I ran the sanding block across the manifold that I got from Rich. Nice an flat. Great! I chased the threads on the manifold and in the head so I had proper clamping force. I cleaned, and block sanded the head so everything was as good as it could be. I double gasketed the manifold again. It is just about as perfect as it can be. Everything pulled up tight. It all looked good. I even used high temp silicone on the gaskets. Then I fired it up.....
The damn thing sounds like it's LEAKING!!! I felt all over the manifold and pipe flange with it running. I felt no leak. I pulled the manifold back off and looked at the gaskets. No evidence of a leak or blow by on the gaskets or head. Put it back together. It sounds like it's leaking. but it's not. Damn it! I give up. I'm DONE with this pile of crap.
Switched out the ratty rear bumper on my 90 today. Hopefully a link to the album on facebook will work.
Well, I don't think the facebook link was working so I'll do it the old fashioned way:
Old bumper and hitch shortly before being torched off:
Rust one the rear brackets and the hitch is welded to the frame and the bumper brackets. The tongue is rust welded into the receiver tube and the cross pin is too. It's all junk.
Bumper is gone!
Bumper stolen from a 94 F250 that is going to be flatbedded later down the road.
I had a decent day with Lee's truck. Now his wipers work properly and the side markers work as well. I'll put the stereo in it tomorrow and see about the rear brakes. I also found some questionable wiring under the hood. That may be some of the intermittent power issues.
I updated my previous post to just link to the pictures.
Today was a very productive day. Got the bumper swapped out on the F150, inspected the axles that are going into my Jeep project, along with a couple of NP208 transfer cases. Couldn't get to the 700r4 because the truck it's bolted in has kind of sank into some terra firma over the years. Things are looking up. The front 44 we're going to be using has flat-top knuckles on both sides. Too bad it has 3.73 gears in it, I was hoping for some 4.10s, but a set of 4.10 gears from Randy's Ring and Pinion is only $165.
What is Big Red? How much did it cost to have your knuckles machined and how much for the arm you're using? Are you going with a full high steer, or just crossover steering?
Big red Is Ryan's non Ford truck It was $25 to have it machined full high steer! This is the driver knuckle don't have right one done yet was waiting on paint to dry tonight!
