Good Morning Everybody!

I have a couple more things to do to the engine today. Then I want to get Lee's truck running again. He brought me the correct gas tank yesterday. Then we have to go to Home Depot and get stuff to hook up the dishwasher. Here's hoping I can get it all done today. I STILL have to go get that scrap truck out of my brother in law's yard. I told him two days and it's been a week.

Afternoon gentlemen, sure is beautiful out there.

Got a wiring question that hopefully someone can back me up on...it may take me a bit to explain it out; but here goes. I've been working on getting everything together for the F650 lower dash I'm going to put in my F250. In a nutshell it looks something like this:

The switches are Carling Contura that have four wires coming out the back.

Blue = Dash light (back light for switch)
Black = Ground
Red = 12V Positive feed
Green = Relay/application

As long as you have 12V at the blue & red wire and the black is grounded...when you flip the switch the orange light on the switch comes on to tell you it's supplying power to the green wire. Here is my question...one of these switches is going to activate the high idle on my truck...which is more or less all it will be doing is completing a circuit; very low amperage (less than an amp) thus the red wire isn't in the same 12V circuit as the other 5 switches. I was toying with the switches to make sure I had everything wired up correctly now that I've soldered everything (except the high idle's red & green wires)....and I noticed the orange light wasn't coming on for the high idle switch. I know it's because it isn't getting 12V at the red wire. It wouldn't be hard to tell when the engine high idles...but it would be nice to have the light in that switch work like the others. Any thoughts on how this...as far as will the light still come on even through it's not getting 12V like the rest?

OK - I've read your post a couple of times and its not making much sense - but I'll take a stab at it.

Auxiliary switches are all usually wired up to control relays. Since you are just using it to complete a circuit, I'd bet that it is not getting enough juice through it to light it up. One suggestion would be to wire it up to a relay. Run 12v through the switch to make the green wire hot when the switch is on. Wire the green wire to a relay to complete the circuit on the high idle solenoid. Give me a few and I'll post up a picture of what I'm talking about.

Connect the green wire to post 85, ground to post 86, and the circuit for the high idle would be between posts 87 & 30.

Sounds like Dave has ya' figured out.

Evening all. I got the 305 all buttoned up and ready to drop in. I also got Lee's new gas tank in. Tomorrow I have to try and finish Lee's truck up. I have to replace the rear fuel pump, fix an exhaust leak, and fix the gauges. No offense Lee, but I want this thing out of here.

Yeah, normally a relay is used so a low amperage control can run a high amperage load. There's no reason they can be used so a high amperage control runs a low amperage load.

Good Monday morning all. not much to brag about here. The 68 Rustallion fought me all weekend. I'm fighting the C pillars now, they have a funky bend where the roof ends and the quarter begins, I think I finally have it figured out since I found one to look at this weekend and it has the same odd bends in the same spots as the one I'm working on. One of the Henry J's is home now and the Suburban is in the car farm for the moment, the wife won't see it til July or so when she goes to pick blackberries. Ms Dent is moved up to the back door of the shop so I can piddle a little bit with her.

Evening all!

Well Lee, I got your gauges working, your brakes got a final adjustment, and the rear tank is back together with the new fill spout. All I have to do is fix the exhaust leak tomorrow and it's all done.
