Use a small 1/8" or 3/16" good right turn bit to make a pilot hole and then use the left hand bits and a lubricant...WD40 or oil in a pump can. Once you get it drilled pretty close to all the way, it should more than likely loosen up and you can use a square bolt extractor to remove it. Don't use the twisted screw extractor, they break more often than they work. Good luck Ches.
Get a GREAT set of drill bits like at "Fasten-all" for like a $100.00 bucks and step drill it out. Center punch the broke bolt to make the sure the first small bit starts and stays in the middle. Work you way up to almost take it all out then cave in the remaining bolt material and clean up the threads.
Starting in the middle is critical, other wise you will drill out your threads then its either retap or helicoil time. Unless you have a REAL good set of reverse drills or easy outs do not try it, the cheap stuff will break.
To be able to get some torque on the tap (with those crappy tap holder t bar) I welded it directly into a old 3/8 dv socket then its game on.
That's what I did on the broken exhaust manifold bolts........
Skip the middle man and weld a nut on to the broken bolt. Then back it out with a socket. It works the best and there's no worry of drilling off center like the moron did in my old black and silver Chevy. He just about wrecked the block being stupid.
Evening all! I was really busy today but it didn't seem like I got anything done. I took the other 305 cylinder head up to the machine shop and he threw a valve job in it for me. So at least I got the other head assembled and resting on the block. I should be able to get the long block finalized tomorrow. (I've only been working on it since October)
I also got the lights and fenders mounted on that tow dolly for a friend of mine, but the previous owner butchered all the wiring, so I have to restring everything.
Tomorrow I have to bring the Dodge dually back here and cut it up. Sorry RC, I have to see how much I can get out of this for my niece. She got taken for $1,800 on this deal so I want to get her as much as possible back on it. Then I have to work on the trailer the truck is sitting on. Just a couple small upgrades on it though. Nothing major.
The woodburner in the basement isn't wanting to do anything but smoke so it looks like its time to clean the chimney. I'm not terribly surprised since I've been burning more pine and cedar than I normally do. After that it's time to get busy on the bathroom downstairs. We've got an appraiser coming Friday to appraise the place for a refinance deal we're working on so I want to have that bathroom looking as nice as possible.
Well, I got about 1/3 of what I wanted to get done today, actually completed.
I got the long block done for that customer. It's about time. I only started it back in October! As long as I was at it, ...and the engine was the right color, ....I mocked up some of my pieces for my Chevelle engine on it. Wanna see what I'm putting in the Chevelle?
Well, we had a decent day today. Alex ran his 4th Pinewood Derby race today and took 1st place again in his Den. Looks like we're going to districts again. Might have to change our game plan for districts. Last year he lost his first 2 races at districts. Double elimination sucks!
Good stuff, Jeff. I remember winning first place in the local race when I was a kid. I got a swelled head and went to districts. I got my butt handed to me. I swear some of those kids had model rocket engines on their cars!
Evening gentlemen. Looks like the weather guessers missed it over here in Nevada...was supposed to rain mix to snow ending with snow last night. Barely even rained...let alone the white stuff. I'm not complaining...just saying I feel better that I'm not the only one that misses the mark from time to time at work.
^=Curt but that's ok. We didn't get big heads, but the track they used at districts last year was completely different than our pack's track. I'm uploading a pic of "The Monster".
Here it is:
About 8' worth of drop and almost as long as a basketball court. District track last year was about 3' high and 20 feet long.
