The good news is that I aced my interview and they'd love to have me start tomorrow.

Kinda sucks, kinda feels good to know that someone wants to hire me at least.
Yeah, that's how I was when I finally went back to work after a 7 month stint as Mr. Mom...I figured out about 2-3 weeks in why they were hiring; just by the caliber of folks I was working with.

My unemployment is considerably more than minimum wage.
Hey! I got one right!!! Y'all have to forgive me, since my retirement is through the Railroad Retirement Board....I don't pay into Social (in)Security. Thus when I draw on unemployment RRB sends my benefits, not SS...so I'm a little out of the loop. I do know RRB pays our unemployment at 80% of your last 12 months averaged income.
SS doesn't pay unemployment insurance. The state does. In my case, it's the state of Kansas.
Unemployment = 50% of your last 12 months average income...up to a certain threshold...
Yeah, my checks were coming from Chicago every two weeks. Pretty much makes up for all those 0100 call times and dealing with the driving rain and otherwise crappy weather. The post office might be older, but we (railroaders) taught 'em what it means rain, snow, sleet, ice or dead of night will not keep us for our rounds. A couple of my coworkers have union bumper stickers that say: "Railroaders do it day & night".
The trade off for that 80%...unless your disabled, the benefits are cut off at 12 months from the day you claim your first. There are a couple of ways "around" that...but I haven't been to jail lately and I don't intend to become bubba's bed buddy any time soon.
Today was a good day. I got all the stuff finished up on the top of the Bravada, but it was just too darn cold again to get underneath it. Tomorrow for sure I'll have it finished up. Then the guy finally came and picked up the tunnel ram carburetors.
....So I took my pocket full of money and paid up the electric bill. (No small feat with electric heat) Then we got the car washed because it desperately needed it. I bought a box of 500 rounds for Kasie's new rifle, ......and me? What did I get for myself?
heh, heh, heh, ...I got these!
These'll go on my Chevelle engine. They're pretty close to the heads I had on my original car. I was going to build a 302, but the 327 that I had in the original car ran it's butt off. I may just build the same engine. YES, ...I'm a happy camper.
Lemme take a good look tomorrow morning and I'll give you a call. If Bob's will work, I'll just use his. (That'll save me some gas money to go up and get yours.)
Good to have you back in the correct time zone, Rich. I'm sure Penny is pretty happy too!
I need to start getting serious and start collecting more parts for my Heep project.
Yup, that's them. I still need a crank shaft and a cam shaft, but I now have the major stuff. I don't even need a crank if I go with the one I have. I have a good 350 crank, but I want to de-stroke it to 327 or 302. I was going to go with a 302, but these aren't 2.02 heads, they're only 1.94's. They won't flow where I need them to if I go down to a 302. (302's turn up really high and the heads need to flow at high rpm's)
