Decode the vin

If you need parts, obsolete or not, I can look up the numbers, then search for them on two online websites to see if anyone has them. Then will post the part numbers, sources that have them.

If the parts are still available, I will list the MSRP and the FTE member discount price offered by sponsor PARTSGUYED.COM (Ed Olson, parts manager of Horizon Ford in Seattle WA).

I've been doing this jazz on FTE since 11/04/2006. And, btw: One of the parts locator sites is only accessible to FoMoCo Dealers.

Here's my attempt from various sources:

F60 = F600 GVW range
E = 361-4V XD
V = Kentucky Truck Plant
Y00124 = Feb 1977 build date

182 = 182" wheelbase
B = Dark Jade Metallic exterior
F602 = F600 series, 19,200# GVW
DR = standard cab, Medium Green Knit Vinyl
8 = Chassis/Cab only
A = New Process 435 4-speed trans
F2 = Eaton 15201, 15000#, 5.83/8.12 2-spd rear axle
L = 6,000# front axle with power steering

19,200 = GVW rating
53 = Kansas City District Order
9468 = Special Order No.

Cheers
(I'm starting to realize just how much time Mr. ND spends on these things...Thank you ND!)

It's still not working correctly, but....so far so good.

Does anybody have any idea if it will fit? The seller says that it fits '52---'54
The number on the crankshaft is the ID engineering number, it is not the part number.

B5Q-6303-D .. Crankshaft = 1952/55 279/317 Lincoln derived Y blocks.

This could be the replacing part number for EAM-6303-A .. It's the only crankshaft listed for 1952/55 279/317 in the 1948/56 Ford truck parts catalog printed in 1964.

P/M's working, computer hasn't been.

You'll have to go to a Ford dealer to verify these dizzy ID numbers, I cannot find a reference.

Do you perhaps have any suggestions on tracking down the original VIN # ? I would like to have this as original and correct as possible, I'm assuming the original VIN tag was missing or illegible, ( I haven't had it transported home yet ) I'll look forward to your advise in the future.

Thanks,

There were no VIN's back then. Ford vehicles were registered by their engine number that was also stamped on the hogshead.

When people swapped in used engines, the numbers no longer matched.

Usually when there's a state issued VIN, the vehicle is either a theft recovery or has been issued a salvage title.

Hi,
Are the VIN Tag and The Warranty tag the same thing on a 1978 F700 ?
And if this tag is missing are the axle ratings, transmission model and differential model information retrievable some other way?
The only VIN information I have is from the title.

I am currently looking for the air intake system from a '74 F750 (or similar, like the pic below) from the hood scoop to the carb to install on my truck. When I explain it to the Salvage yard employees, they look at me funny. Can I get a drawing of this style intake to better help me get what I'm looking for?

This is what I'm looking to do. Got the idea from pauly3wood, a fellow FTE member.

No.

Maybe.
No VIN tags on trucks until 1980. VIN tag located on the left side of the dash, visible thru the windshield and only has the VIN stamped on it.

Warranty Plate riveted to the left door face below the latch. Has all sorts of codes embossed on it (TYPE/GVW; BODY; TRANS; AXLE and etc).

Safety Standard Certification Label glued to the left B pillar (door post) below the striker plate.

1970/79: Has the production date, misc. GVWR's and the VIN printed on it...and that's it.

Parts catalog pic of Warranty Plate:

Thanks again Bill.
With regard to your "maybe" response to my second question, what are the options/process?
I looked for tags on both transmission and rear axle and didn't find any. The rear axle is an Eaton (stamped in housing casting )

What engine does it (or did it) have? 460's were not installed in anything larger than a F350.
