The Counterman's Lament

I work behind the counter, at a car and truck parts store, sometimes I'm called a genius, sometimes I'm called much more.

I'm really just a counterman, but when the job goes sick, the experts come and ask me; "What makes the damn thing tick?"

I'm supposed to know the numbers, of valves and bolts and gears, on every product that's been made, for more than forty years.

Mind Reader, Magician, and Handyman oh Lord, I'm supposed to be an Edison, combined with Henry Ford!

But life would be so simple, and I'd smile from ear to ear, if people would just tell me, the Model, Make and Year.

Yet "simple" is no longer, in this day and age we're in...

I can't help you any more without the last 8 of your VIN.

Hello Bill,
I too am new here, and could really use your help so I know exactly what year this truck is, and any other information on it.
Also if you happen to know the part number for the wheel cylinders, that would be great.

Thanks,
Michael

N60 = N600 (gas).

M = 330 2V Heavy Duty FT engine.

U = Louisville KY Assembly Plant.

625405 = 1965.

144" Wheelbase.

J = Rangoon Red.

N602 = N600 (gas); 20,000 lbs. GVWR

E81B: E = Red Crush Vinyl & Red Ladder Pattern Woven Plastic // 81B = Custom Cab.

M = Clark model 264VO 5 Speed Overdrive.

F7 = Eaton model 13802 Two Speed Rear Axle / 5.83/8.11 / 15,000 lbs. Axle Capacity.

20,000 lbs. Gross Vehicle Weight Rating.

160 net HP @ 3,800 RPM

71 = Los Angeles (SoCal) Ford District Sales Office, where the original selling dealer ordered the truck from.

Since there is no 3rd digit of the AXLE code, your N600 has the standard equipment 5,000 lbs. capacity front axle with 14" x 2 1/2" brakes.

C4TZ-2061-B .. Right Front Wheel Cylinder - 1 1/16" diameter / Obsolete

RPN PARTS in Erie PA has 1 = 888-864-9305.

NOS PARTS SOURCE in Olathe KS has 1 = 913-220-5746.

MILLER OBSOLETE PARTS in Binghamton NY has 5 = 607-722-5371.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
C4TZ-2062-B .. Left Front Wheel Cylinder - 1 1/16" diameter / Obsolete

GREEN SALES CO. in Cincinnati OH has 2 = 800-543-4959.

CARPENTER NOS OBSOLETE PARTS in Concord NC has 2 = 800-476-9653.

BOWMAN SALES & SERVICE in Bowman ND has 3 = 701-523-3257.

MILLER OBSOLETE PARTS has 6.
-------------------------------------
1965 N600 with 15,000 lbs. capacity rear axle could have 15" x 4" or 15" x 4 1/2" rear brakes.

The wheel cylinders are different (there are 4: 2 uppers / 2 lowers per side), so you'll need to determine which size the brake shoes are.

Hi there, Bill! I hope you are well! My 1957 F600 is shaping up nicely! I am doing some work on the rear brakes and I need to replace some of the coarse threaded, countersunk screws that secure the brake drum to the hub. The truck has the Eaton two speed rear end if that makes a difference. Any help you can provide in finding these little buggers would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks for all you do for us!
