O'Reilly has the best price. If you go in you may still get the sale price of $19.99 if not it will be $29.99. Get the above part# and oblong the hole in the bracket to line up with the hole in your tailgate then follow the directions.
To me there wasn't alot of room to oblong the hole in the bracket to keep it's strenght so I went with oblonging the tailgate hole. When I lined up the bracket circle flush and tight against the tailgate the bracket hole showed half hole and half tailgate. So it's not too bad of a job. I drilled it first then used a grinding stone to finish the job.
This is such a long thread, but I understand there is a new one and and old one? Maybe a wrong one and a right one? Can anybody please post the site where I can get the right one for my 2011 350?
1998-2006 F250,F350 #SG304901EZ works with a few minute modification and is redily available with the big shock.

But if you get the SG304902EZ the bracket fits the tailgate as is. Just make sure it's the older model 02 with the cylinder that attaches to the post with a clip like the existing cable, and not the one that attaches via a pin at the top. The cylinders in the older 01 and 02 are the exact same, it's just the bracket that is different.
my bud had that trick pulled on him, he pulled on the gate it open and he fell on the drivway and broke his hip.really nice trick **** retentive. laugh you jerk,
Woohooo. I stopped by an O'Rielly's autoparts in a small town during our Memorial Day weekend and they had one of the old style's on the shelf. Just but that bizzatch on. Wow, what an improvement over that tiny new style one that broke on me. Happy camper. Curious to see what DeeZee mails me in late July to replace the one that broke.
I have the style for an 06 and it works good. Doesn't hit the bumper and has a strong tailgate bracket. But with the fat cylinder I find it's too slow for me at times when I'm busy.
All I know is that it's a damn fine setup. It's nice to watch your tailgate lower softly (like my no slam toilet seat LOL) so that your 2K tailgate with camera, is in good hands. I'm done drunk posting. Later all.
To be honest one might read thru all the posts here and find what he wants or one (like me might find it confusing to say the least). But one thing I got out of these posts were the latest ones that said they got one for the 2006 Ford F350 and had to only alter the bracket or tailgate hole like I chose to do and it works very nice. At first I found it lowering too slow because I'm in a hurry alot but I found I can force it down a little faster and this works for me.
That's why I ordered both. Can try them both and see which I like better. Or mix and match so I don't have to modify the lower bracket. Also remember, when it's cold out they will likely drop a little faster.
Just went to the local O'Reilly's. They had both the 901 and the 902 for $29.99. In the picture below the 901 is on the left and has a noticeably larger shock. Going out to install it now.
Doc, please let me know how it turns out. So far I have received two 902's from different vendors, neither worked and had to return them. From this thread, I was under the impression that there was an older and newer version of the 902's. They both looked like the one on the right in your picture. The thing that would not work is, when it was installed, it hit the rubber bushing mounted in the lower part of the door frame. I'm just about ready to give up.
I installed the 901 from O'Reilly's yesterday and it only required a little modification of the metal piece that attaches to the tailgate. I removed the rubber bumper as suggested in the directions, but re-installed it to see if there was any interference. No interference at all and I left it on. Works great! I like the idea of the larger shock on the 901.
I had the more cheaply built version on the right, and it recently broke. The pin on the top attachment point sheared off, and the bottom attachment point bent. Got my money back from Amazon.
I am now trying to find the older version (as shown on the left in doczenith1's picture) but I'm in Canada and there are no O'Reilly's here or in the US northeast. I have asked a friend from Chitown if he'd look around for me and maybe pick one up for me.
The problem is that I got used to the thing, and now the tailgate feels like a real pig!
If anyone is "out there" at an O'Reilly's and sees the older model, if you don't mind asking them if they'd mail one to me, I'd be happy to call in my credit card to the store.
