I ordered one from Amazon for my 2006 and it looks like the bigger cylinder, but unfortunately, the cylinder was the only thing in the package! No instructions, no mounting hardware, no nothing. Back it goes to Amazon................
I just swapped mine out. I removed the "new" cylinder kit, and replaced it with the "old" cylinder kit and I was then able to reattach the driver's side tailgate bumper also. The "older" & "fat" cylinder definitely does the job properly.
If you have an O'Reilly Auto Parts store in your area they still carry the old style in some of their stores. I had to go to three before I found the old style... Works great
I called Stabilus and spoke to a design engineer. Jim was very informative. He informed me that they had consolidated applications for Superduty and F150's so that they are packaging the same kit for both applications. I informed him of the problems we are having and he told me he would do his best to bring back the old piston packaged for Superduty's only. Meanwhile, he sugested O'reilys and they have some old ones in stock.... I am sending this thread to him. Hi Jim
Went to O'Reilly Auto Parts this morning and found the kit for my truck. They had several for the 2007 and down models, as well as a couple for the '08-'10. All had the big cylinders (they did have a couple for GM trucks that had the smaller setup). The best part is that they were on sale for $19.99!
I read through the instructions for my 2006, and they do say that you have to remove the rubber bumper at the bottom.

Sooo, if a guy were in a kind mood, one would buy all those "old" style units, put a little profit on them, and place them on ebay as a but it now and send us all the link so we can snap them up before the general public.... Do you know anybody like that?????
Not a terrible idea. I'll have to see if there are any left the next time I swing by.
I did get it installed today... works just as advertised! On my '06, it does say to remove the rubber bumper, but I didn't do it, and there is plenty of clearance.
went to my Orielly and they have the old style for $19.99. Still have a few available at other stores around me in the Kansas City area. Your looking for Orielly part number SG304902EZ
