I loved it when it worked, Honestly, this is good for the occasional user. I open my tailgate many times a day, and it is not up to the task to be on a super duty. Good for those who only open the tailgate every few days, but if you do it daily numerous times, you will soon see it fail.
well heck...read every page through 14 and after that i get a data error on the rest of the pages up to 24....crap!!.... lol
Site will sometimes give that error, seems to be during peak usage times.
While I'm here I might as well document my expereince with this install when I installed a Dee-Zee a couple months ago on my tailgate. Turned into a 2 week install. The one I originally got the socket clip on the tailgate end was broken. I contacted DZ customer service via email and the very nice lady said she'd send a new part. Got it three days later. She sent the nutsert. Another email. Another part sent. Wrong part. Another email, with pictures this time, Another part sent. Wrong part. Another email sent, with more detailed pictures. This time they just sent a whole new kit. Quit the war of attrition. Works great.
I have one on both sides of my tailgate as I broke 1 initially. The two (so far) have worked great.
I was going to ask that question! Can you install 2 of them and the tailgate still comes down OK? O'Rielly sells them but which brand did you put on Mr. SavageNFS? These sound like a great thing to put on.
I used the DeeZee ones. you have to put a lock (or I used a cheap hose clamp) on the tailgate so the assist cylinder doesn't pop the tailgate out on the passenger side, but it works pretty good. You can see in the pic of the driver's side the stud was bent already on the tailgate.
I have the older style on my 2011. Different then in these photos. Lost the C clip holding on the gas shock. I don't use it any more. I take the tail gate off and on alot and it is a pain to keep putting the gas shock on and off. I may put it back but for now I don't care.
I picked up a couple of Stabillus EZ down kits for my truck and installed tonight. Very nice! Had to modify the passenger side a little bit for the tailgate mounting but these things work very nice. I have noticed that the shocks do rub on the tailgate 'guides' just before the closing of the tailgate. Is this normal? I might get the narrower shocks to eliminate the rubbing. Hey, $20 a piece is better the what Dee Zee wants. I did need to remove the rubber snubbers on the truck bed.
