I just got the one I ordered from Amazon about 10 days ago. I was expecting it to be the newer style because Amazon only got them back in stock recently. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was the old style unit that doesn't require me to remove the bumper and also slows the tailgate down more.
I've been following this thread and am thinking of ordering one of these for my 2006. Does anyone know if ALL of the cylinders are fubar'd, or is it only the models for the 2011 trucks? I wish I could find one local to look at, but I will most likely have to order it online. $40 is about the cheapest I can find (including shipping).
Look for the model that the top of the cylinder mounts to the tailgate striker post versus the one that has a plate that is mounted under the striker that has a lower mounting stud. The ones which mount to the striker seem to be the larger, better cylinder.
I just got an email from Jeff @ DeeZee. He asked for my full address and told me that when they got it sorted out, they would send me a new kit. I won't post his info here, but PM me if you want his email address.

I got the same e-mail from him...and my PMs work if you are interested.
I ordered mine from Amazon 4/21--It showed up yesterday and it's the new style that mounts with the plate. Will be sending it back, have an order in with O'Rielly will see if the old style shows up from them.
Is there any reason why the model for the older trucks won't work on the newer ones?
They fit with a little modification. I used the Stabilus model designed for the 2006 Super Duty which I found at O'Rielly. The hole in the tailgate is in a slightly different place. I drilled another hole in the bottom mounting plate and was good to go.
