They're closed today, calling Monday. I have a feeling the shock was wrong, it needs a longer stroke and much much more damping. I do have the step in this tailgate however and it's heavy.
Bought mine from Amazon.com for 29.95 plus shipping. Instructions were a bit mickey mouse, but figured it out. Installed it about a month ago. No problems at all. Very cool
thanks for the info bbob. Where you at in WA? I live in Maple Valley, just ordered the truck from Fugate in Enumclaw, still got about 5-6 weeks to wait.
I live half way between Auburn and Enumclaw. I bought my truck from Fugate and was very happy with them. Let me know if you want to talk more. I'll send you my e-mail.
I did the same exact thing. Installed it per the directions and after a couple of drops the lower ball mount came loose. I just used the tightening tool and gave it a couple more turns. It seemed to tighten up pretty good but after a week of use it's starting to get loose again. I just tightened up the ball joint more and it seems to be working for now but I'm not too confident that it will not come lose again.
Tried looking for the nut insert but can't find them anywhere. If it doesn't stay tight I'm just going to tighten it till it as much as I can or until it breaks and then maybe buy another just for the nut insert. Now I'm noticing the lower shock shaft is coming lose of the ball joint as well. We'll see how long it last. It works so good when it's working that I don't have any problems buying another one to see if i can't get it right the second time. My Tundra had this built in and I feel like this is a must have especially with how heavy the tailgate is.
Let us know if you get it fixed or find a solution.
Well it happened after a few more weeks of use the nut insert worked itself loose and when i tried to retighten it, it stripped out.
As suggested. I went to the Dee Zee website registered and made a complaint. I was happy to get a reply the very next day apologizing for my problem and Dee Zee is shipping me a new nutsert to me free of charge. I haven't got it yet but I'll let you know as soon as I do.
Mine is loose as well. I will have to do what you did.
I saw somewhere the older style (maybe for a different truck) where there was no nutsert but you angled the bolt with nut on it and then tightened. I think I would have found that easier.............
Well mine broke today!!!! i opened the tail gate and it slammed down so hard. I looked over and amazingly, it was not the nutsert this time, it was the top part with the ball mount. The ball broke off the metal bracket and is in the shock... not happy about this...
