I guess in Texas things can be a ways apart! which reminds me of this story:
Two old guys were were standing around bragging.
One guy said to the other, "My ranch is so big that I can drive my truck all day and not reach the other side."
The other guy responded, "Yeah, I used to have a truck like that."
No, sorry, just shipped it back today. It was the threaded post that goes into the insert that goes into the tailgate. I think from the sudden drop it would make...
[quote=porthole;10251828]Put mine on yesterday. Got it from a local speed shop, which really surprised me they had it and for a good price. $39.
No problems and works as expected. RBBB also left on.
Thanx Porthole, just ordered one from your guy. I think that the good ones, like yours, is made by DEE ZEE and the bad ones are sold as EZ Down, but made by Stabilus....The one I shipped back had Stabilus and EZ Down names on it.
I just got an email from Jeff @ DeeZee. He asked for my full address and told me that when they got it sorted out, they would send me a new kit. I won't post his info here, but PM me if you want his email address.
I cant PM you. Can you email me his information or forward the email to me? I have the one with the plate that requires the rubber stop to be removed and it does not lower the tailgate very slowly at all.
I see O'rielly's is selling the EZ Down version made by Stabilus for $19.99. Went there and tried it. Didn't like the way it fit. Didn't want to remove the RBBB. Will wait for the DEE ZEE model.

I hope the DEE ZEE model fixes the speed which the tailgate goes down. I mounted the Stabilus version and I am happy with it.
Apparently the one to have is the older version with the larger diameter shock and the the "loop" on the upper end of the shock that fits over the stud vs the smaller diameter shock and the plate that mounts at the top. The one at my local O'rielly's is the newer version with the smaller shock and the plate with the little ball on it to attach the shock to. That's not the one I want. Stabilus was the manufacturer.
houstonmr, after reading this entire thread again, it seems you first purchased the newer version, which did not meet your expectations, and have since purchased an older version, which seems to do a better job of doing what it's supposed to. Stabilus might indeed make them both.

Yes, Stabilus makes both. I got the version that was for a 2006 Super Duty. I left the mounting piece that fits in the hole on the tailgate and re-drilled the hole in the 2006 kit tailgate bracket. The 2006 kit came with the larger shock and mounts to a new (supplied) upper strap stud. The tailgate goes down slower and I like it better than the kits with the smaller shock.
I might go back to O'rielly's today and see iff they have one of the older style dampers on the shelf. For $19.99, it's worth a second trip. I gotta power rake the yard first
I removed the EZ Down from my '05 and want to install it on my '11.
It uses the upper replacement stud and 'loop' on the shock, but the lower small loop passes over a stud on the metal plate and the tailgate does not appear to have the threads to bolt the plate to. Any ideas?
Confusing thread for me to read thur. Is there a decision on which one is the right one for our 2011's? or do we have to combine 2 different ones?
There are two styles with the same model number. Apparently they released a new design which is a smaller shock and lowers the tailgate faster than the old design. Also the old design has a loop at the top of the shock that attaches to the cable mount on the truck. With the new modes, you need to remove the tailgate rubber stop to get the gate to close. Long story short, they are looking for a new design for the 2011's and if you can find the old style it will work...
The kit I got was the only one for an F-350, but he only keeps one in stock anyway.

Hi Porthole, I went to Mikes and picked up this model and it was old style. Can you give me the numbers off the cylinder? I'm just going to call them and request they send me the correct cylinder.
