Yes, that's correct. I bought both and installed the older slower stronger style. I notched the bracket as I didn't have the heart to drill into the truck. It clears the the rubber stopper as well. Works good but falls sooooo slowly. I like that because I didn't drill the truck that I can consider installing the faster newer version and if it breaks, I have the stronger one as backup (or vice versa).
Well, I might install the faster one and then will have the older style for backup. Need to gauge how annoying the slow opening will prove to be first. That is why I added the 'vice versa' at the end.
Just put one on mine and it works good. Pop the handle and the tailgate goes down pretty fast 3/4 of the way down then gentle to full open. Mainly put it on for my wife so she would have little trouble opening the tailgate....

Really not sure I think one goes down slow and the other is quicker. Mine goes down quick and slows about 3/4 of the way down.... Got it from O'reilly's from what I read it is the newer.
I bought one from NAPA today part Number 819-3404. It says it fits a 1998-2006 F250 + F350. It hooks on the tail gate cable mount and has the lower bracket. The shock says EZDowner on it and 5477yc 0000n 239/07 c 5 . The shock body is .90 inchx6 7/8inch. Can anyone conferm this is the same as the same as the 901 from O'Reillys? Thanks.
I can't believe this thread is still going. Just pin this sucker to the top! Haha. I love my EZ down by the way. Works great.
I happened to be driving past an O'relly auto parts store yesterday and could no longer resist the temptation to check out one of those EZ Down thingies. Got it installed and I wanted to see how long it took the tailgate to drop. So I'm standing behind the truck looking at my watch and my wife comes into the shop to tell me dinner is ready. She looks at me and says "what are you doing"? So I told her. She rolls her eyes and says "when you're done timing your tailgate, you can come eat dinner". The rest of the night all she did was tease me and timing my tailgate.
Thanks Steve.

BTW - It is sooo cool, and it takes 7 seconds to drop.

Go ahead, embrace your inner truck geek. There's more than a few of them on this forum.

I think we have found a new game, TAILGATE RACES. Gavin is in the lead with 7.0 in the "OPEN" class. Can anyone "beat" that with a slower time? I also think we need to have a "handicap system" that allows all players to compete for fun and prizes depending on if you háve the tailgate step or not.
I am in Billings today and can see my truck oute there waiting to compete. I will post my time in a few minutes before I head over to Cabela's before the 8 hour drive to Denver.

I got the Stabilus EZ Down, PN SG304901EZ made by or distributed by ZF Services at O'relly auto parts. I believe the "901" fits '99-'07 SD and the "902" fits '08-'10. I got the 901 because that was the number that stuck in my head from reading this thread when I purchased mine. I had to figure eight the hole in the tailgate mounting plate to get it to fit the truck. I believe the 902 fits with no mods and has the faster tailgate drop ET.
