I have noticed a harsh 2-3 shift 3 times since we got the truck on the 2nd. All have occurred when taking off forward after the truck has been at rest overnight. Yesterday, I had to turn the truck around before I left. I ended up backing the truck in a 3 point turn and then backing up more for a last word with my wife before I took off. I backed in 2 separate maneuvers about 50 feet. I had no harsh shift. I will have to do this more times to see if a trend occurs.
Best regards,
Russ
Gotcha.. I wonder if the fact that the torque converter locks up in 3rd has anything to do with it.
Admittedly, I don't know enough about transmissions to know if the harsher shift from 2-3 is due to the torque converter or not. I can say it's been nice not having to worry about getting on the gas after the truck's been sitting. Haven't been able to reproduce it yet and my trucks been sitting for days at a time when I've tried. It's been nice out so the XRL is gettin' some miles on it, not to mention I'm enjoying the 45mpg I get on it.

It sounds logical, however I have no expertise on transmissions, so I don't know.
Yesterday, when I backed up with cold truck, I only backed up 20 feet and the 2-3 shift was in between harsh and soft. More testing to come.

Well I think it is finely time to jump in and have the latest TSB applied. My trick build date was 8/30/10 and they will be replacing the 3 solenoids and shift up-dates on the 15th. I have not had serious problems with 2-3 shifting but it does happen when you least expect it. I had one incident when towing in TH when it did it and almost caused an accident. From others experiences this hopefully will take care of the problem.
Well I just received a call from my Ford dealer and they have to reschedule the TSB work on my trans. They said that the solenoids are on back-order and that they don't know how long it will be before they get them. They had ordered them over a week ago to have them when I came in and checked on them today. There is still no ship date for the parts. You would think that Ford when issuing a TSB for the replacement of these would make sure that they would be in stock and ready to ship. NOW I need to try to reschedule some work for tomorrow so I won' be sitting on my #### and loose a days pay for nothing.
Its going on 9 month I have had the latest flash, dealer even put the recorder on the computer and still no fix. Talk to Ford Rep several times, a waste. They Have No Answers
I put a little over 100 miles on my new truck today and so far it is shifting smooth as silk. I am going easy on it for now. See what happens when it gets broke in a little and I push it some.
