My truck hasn't acted up in a week or so. Also over the past week, it's been a bit warmer.
With all that I have read from owners it does seem to lean towards the cooler temps and initial miles in the mornings. Hopefully a reprogram change can fix it.
My transmission temps get up to the 190 degree range here in Arizona.
I was wondering if anyone observed the trans. temp when the shifting goes weird.

For me, it would act up with outside temps at or below freezing, trans temps <100. Since we're finally up into the 40's for lows, things have been pretty good for me, no acting up.
190 is the normal operating temps (at least from everyone on here). Mine would get up to that even when it was 10 degrees out.
I have to admit, I miss the AZ winters (I was born/raised in Gilbert) but when summer rolls around, forget it! I'll take the PA humidity! lol...
Definitely seems to be cold related... it has only happened to me once and that was when it was really cold out, well below freezing. I was in a bit of a hurry... truck had only been turned off for a couple hours so I didn't really give it a chance to warm up...
Mine did it when the temps were at or below 35*F. Only on cold starts, or if it had been sitting a while in the cold. Now that it's over 40-45* whenever I set off in the morning it's better. Now I just have that intermittent ticking noise.
My trans shifts fine in the morning when its cold , it only acts up after a 30 mile highway trip to work and the let it sit for about 3 hours. The trans will not find 3rd gear until the third or forth try.
I have been experiencing just about every problem I have read about. At low speeds and very little acceleration (this is key in duplicating this problem), the shift between 1rst and second is very harsh. It usually lets out a big clunk! It is bad enough that I am a little concerned about damaging other components...u-joints, rear end, etc. If under harder acceleration it never does this. It also happens when both hot and cold. The shift from third to fourth, when cold, hesitates when under moderate acceleration. Once I have had it where the RPMs increased considerably for a couple seconds...like it was searching for a gear and then shifted into fourth gear. I have called Ford several times. They want to look at it of course. I HAVE TO HAVE MY TRUCK! It is scheduled to go in next week.
The dealer had my truck three days last and all this week and still no fix , any suggestion on what do next. Is There A Ford Tech Out There That May No The Best Way TO Get This Resolved.
There's supposed to be a new TSB for the trans released on the 20th (6 days). This comment was made by Paul over in the 6.7 forum, who works for Ford and has been a great resource here on the boards. Here's the post.
My concern is that there hasn't been much mention of it resolving the issues for us 6.2 owners, so hopefully it pertains to us as well. I may have missed its mentioning in the thread over there though.
Well I haven't been here for a while since I traded my 2011 f250....as I said before I think all these transmissions have a serious flaw....I may be the only one here that had a complete failure but for me I could see this problem turning into my problem after the warranty expired.....dont be fooled by a reprogram this really is no fix if you could have seen the inside of my transmission the front clutch was totally destroyed and I had a 4.30 gear ! pay close attention to the transmission and use the lemon law... they have three attempts to fix it in 12 k miles. or buy it back ! My 02...
Just finished a 700 mile drive pulling my 30ft 5th wheel (10,000 lbs) and had not a speck of problem with the transmission. Actually I thought it perforded very well without missing any gears or problems.
Transmission temperature ranged between 184 – 199 degrees and the high was climbing hills with outside temp at 85 degrees.
Sorry to hear about your transmission problems but I think you are a small minority. Things like this happen and good luck with your 2002 you got back.
That's what it says in your user profile.
How many miles were on your truck? Did you pull a load often? What were your tranny problems ? What did you get on a trade (Vehicle)? I just hit 15,000 mi on mine , the tranny was a problem the first few shifts when its cold out. It's going in the dealer this Thursday I want them to check the tranny, & the reverse senors work intermittently I am glad i purchased the 100,000 ext war.
So far - so good. 2000 on truck with no issues. Hope it stays that way. Been between 0 & 40 degrees since ownership. Did a 1200 mile trip a week ago and no problems. God I hope I dont jink my self. I did get an extended warranty 75K mostly due to reading this thread and the 6.7 thread prior to purchase...

I hope you have no problems.
Just remember that the ones with problems will post messages but the 99.9% who have no issues are silent. So when reading a doom and gloom message keep in mind that they are more satisifed customers out there than ones with problems.

I can't imagine your frustration...getting a new truck and having significant issues. I'm only chiming in because it appears you are driving like me and I am having zero issues to date. I have racked up 680 miles ans so far so good. I chuckle at the shift from 1st to 2nd at 5 MPH. I imagine when I'm pulling my 9500 lb camper that will make sense, but right now it seems geared to high. Good luck...hopefully you have a dealership that goes to bat for you and gets things ironed out fast.
