My 2011 has 50,000 miles on it. I noticed that I cannot get in and drive unless the engine has warmed up. The tranny does not like to shift when it is cold. I never had this problem with my chev. My tranny sometimes gets confused on what gear it should be in. Not a big enough problem to complain. I just warm up the truck for 15 minutes before I drive away and it seems to be okay.
Must just be a Ford thing.
It doesn't go at all?
Does your truck have the trans TSB applied? Based on the comment about the trans getting confused after a long soak, it doesn't sound like it has. Not sure about the undriveable part though, never heard of that one.
I will drive after starting cold but it doesnt like it (tranny i mean). The engine is fine but the tranny does not like to shift well until the truck is warmed up. I am due for service so i will ask ford about the TSB. Thanks. My other truck has 50,000 on it as well and it has the same problem. It was built last summer and had to have the reflash. Mine came with it as it was delivered in October 2010
Unfortunately I don't have much more information than the TSB lists. My truck didn't need the solenoids replaced so I'm not familiar with 'em:
This is from the TSB:
2. Replace the three normally high solenoids.
Refer to the Workshop Manual (WSM), Section
307-01B. Proceed to Step 3.
a. Remove solenoids in-vehicle, identify the service band required for LPC, C35R/SSB,
C456/SSE solenoids. Removal of the main control is not required.
PART NUMBER PART NAME

BC3Z-7G383-L Solenoid-Band Number 3
BC3Z-7G383-M Solenoid-Band Number 4
BC3Z-7G383-N Solenoid-Band Number 5
I have been following this thread, my F250 is over a year old with only 1500 miles. I did notice a weird shift from 2nd to third to forth almost like it was slipping a little all the way from 2nd to 4th. I went to the dealer last week to make an appointment which was this morning the tech uploaded the newest program into the computer and said he would order one each of all four of the listed solenoids and I can drop the truck off next Monday. He also told me that until he drops the pan he will not be sure which three solenoids are in my trans and if it has two of the same number, he will have to order another one. He did say that he would upload the computer again after the new solenoids are installed. The first thing I noticed about the new program is the 1 thru 6 indicator numbers come on each time I shift into drive now, I do not have to press the shift + side of the rocker switch to bring the numbers up each time I shift into Drive. It does seem to shift better already, it will be interesting to see if the solenoids make it better.
Just a note to all. This truck has been a let down for me, the engine sounds like it has no oil when starting after a hard pull, when cold the engine pecks for three miles or so until warmed up and the trans after the repair (solenoids replaced and updated program) the truck is still slow when shifting from second to third along with the weird shifting it has had all along. I'm just paiding good money for a truck that I will worry me when the warranty is gone, just not sure of it's life expectancy before big repairs.
This being said I have cut my loses and traded my 2011 f250 6.2 gasser for a new Dodge Ram 3500 Cummins.
I hope you all the best of luck and thanks again for your info you have shared.
I purchased my 2011 F250 crew cab 6.2 w/4.30 rear end in late march. From day one I have had hard shift issues, esp hard into 3rd the first time when cold. After 900 miles started to occasionally tow a 5 ton 5th wheel - have found irractic shifting in tow haul mode and locking up into 2nd gear when hard accelerating through intersection from 5th gear (had to shift into manual mode to upshift out of 2nd) that freaked my wife and me out, sounded like someting was going to blow up! I only tow in manual mode now. Also seems to be a slip in the torque converter sometimes in 2nd,3rd, 4th When accelerating with heavy load (5th wheel). Feels and sounds like two halfs to each gear - no change on dash display for gear selection. Have seen, heard, felt this in tow/haul or manual mode. Have been to dealer 5 times in 5 months. Reflash PMS; reflash PMS/TMS and re-learn shift; replace shift control module. Everytime the truck is brought in, the dealer has to wait on regional service engineer to evaluate and direct what to do to repair. The service manager has personally (as well as at least one writer) witnessed the hard shift when cold into 3rd, but apparently the field service eng has not?? The truck is in the shop again, and now the service director wants me to come back down and take him for a ride to show him the problem again. Not sure if he is swamped with work and can't remember or what, not to mention the under load issues are difficult for them to duplicate w/o load. I am growing very fustrated and have asked for them to replace the tranny and torque converter, as they have had lots of time and attempts to fix. Truck has 6,500 miles on it. Time to replace the entire assemblies and take to detroit for eval, or buy back the truck. I love the Ford trucks, but this is definately leaving a bad taste..
At the begining I thought it was the tranny but what I have found with my truck is that its like the rev limiter comes on as the truck will not accelerate or rev then will shift hard into 3rd anybody have this happened to them.
I took my truck in yesterday and the tech was right about needing two of one solenoid, my trans took one L and two M solenoids. I had a good talk with the tech yesterday and I found out more information. It seem that Ford must be getting a good deal on these solenoids, but they are not programmed exactly correct for our trucks. He told me the solenoids have to wide of a parameter setting and need to be reprogrammed per Ford's spec's. He told me that Ford has done research into the optimum settings we need for our trucks and have this info available online for resetting the replacement solenoids. I wanted to share this info because of some owners getting the replacement solenoids and reprogram, but still having the problem with their trans, might be their replacements were not reprogrammed or not done correctly?????? The solenoid I needed came in this morning and I got my truck back. the truck is shifting much better than before and I have not had time to complete the learning mode on this repair yet.
I have flogged on my truck since I posted about the TSB a coupla months ago. So far, after mabye 3500 miles of towing and 4x4ing my tranny has been perfect. I am sorry some of yawl are having trouble.
Last weekend, driving from Flagstaff to Montrose, with dirtbikes in bed and boys in truck, I averaged 14.4 miles per gallon, using 87 octane gas, driving over 10,000' pass for the first 400 miles. I ran mostly in manual mode. I am super pleased.
