After a long time my truck acted up today, BIG time.
I was pulling out of a parking lot onto the access road and it skipped between 2nd and 3rd. it went to neutral and the revvs increased four times before it jerked into gear.
18.000 miles on new truck and this dam thing sliped and banged in and out of gear 8 times today. took it by ford dealer and the service writer said he had not heard anything about the transmissions doing this. also the truck has hesitaited twice under take off from a stop like any old carberated car use to do. It feels like the trans needs a rebuild already?
I hope you have no problems.
Just remember that the ones with problems will post messages but the 99.9% who have no issues are silent. So when reading a doom and gloom message keep in mind that they are more satisifed customers out there than ones with problems.
Yep - at least when/if it happens I will not be caught off quard. I know, percentage wise, this is effecting a smaller number yet it seems like most dealers are oblivious to this issue and for those with this issue that the disconcerning issue. My dealer said no TSB unless this issue occurs. Not sure if they are aware of this issue. It's 600+ miles to/from dealer. That's the part I dread.
So, my truck was at the dealership yesterday...Here is the story from the Repair Order.
"TEST DRIVE/CONFIRMED ERRATIC SHIFT/CK TSBS AND OASIS/PER TSB10-21-13 REFLASH PCM/DURING PCM REFLASH IDS LOST COMMUNICATION WITH MODULE/HAD TO REFLASH 2ND TIME TO GET VEHICLE TO RUN/AT THAT POINT HAD CODES FOR PROBLEMS IN SCCM AND PCM ID BLOCK/CONTACTED HOT LINE/INFO NOT RELEVANT TO ISSUE/MOVED TO DW/TIME CLEARED AND DID PROGRAMMABLE MODULE INSTALL FOR SCCM/CLEARED SCCM FAULT/DID SAME FOR PCM/REPROGRAMMED ALL PROGRAMMABLE FUNCTIONS/NETWORK NOW CHECKS OK/CLEARED PCM KAM (I think they meant RAM) AND TCM ADAPTIVE TABLES/TEST DRIVE/OK AT THIS TIME"
The first thing I noticed is the 1 2 3 4 5 6 gear indicator now stays on. Before it would not show until the gear lock out button was pressed. I have tried to duplicate the shifting problem and have not been able to. Prior to going to the shop I would try to avoid the hard shifts and was not able to. The 1rst to 2nd slam seems to be gone. The hard downshift from 6th to 5th is also gone. The transmission seems as smooth as a baby's rear end. Also on the way to work I reset the fuel mileage. I got almost 5mpg better than I have ever got on the same drive. It averaged 19.1mpg. The previous best was 14.7. I am not sure if the TSB reprogram helped that much or if it is just a fluke but I will take it! So far, GOOD JOB FORD! Hopefully it lasts! TSB10-21-13
I copied your service order when I go to the dealer Thursday I don't want them saying we don't know what your talking about. I hate these intermittent problems all winter the problem has been worse(tranny) now its better, the same with my reverse sensor problem sometimes it works in the morning and not at work or visa versa . I have also had problems with my phone not wanting to stay connected with Sync...
Isn't 10-21-13 the TSB from last November? If you had to turn on your gear indicator after every start up then it sounds like the TSB from last Oct/Nov.
Regardless though, glad it's working out good for you so far.
My truck came from the factory with this TSB applied (truck built 12/8) and I still have 2nd/3rd shift issues under certain circumstances. I can normally control when it happens so I'm easy on the throttle the first ten minutes and it's been fine. Yesterday it did it with me driving taking it easy, happened immediately after a 9 hour soak in 60 degree temps, trans temp was 90.
I was talking to my neighbor who lives two doors from me. He is a senior technician at the dealership I took my truck to. He told me that he would watch for my truck and get the right guy to work on it. He said they are like any shop and that they have some guys that should not even work on wheelbarrows. I think this plays a big part in your experience at the dealership.
He also mentioned that this bulletin only applies to certain trucks...by manufacture date. He could not remember the exact dates....but this is good info anyway. Obviously the trucks being made now already have the good stuff.
I know my truck was built early on. I bought it last April.
Yeah, but the good stuff still has issues for a large number of 6.2/6.7 trucks...myself included. Regardless of that though, I'm glad you're seeing positive results from the last update.
I think the new trans update should be out soon, will have to see how some fare. I'm skeptical to get it done as my truck has only had this issue occur a minimal amount of times. I don't want to update the trans and it be worse.

I would be very interested to know if the SCCM faults listed in that work order above were left on some vehicles, or some other problems were there that the tech just ignored and said "good enough, it'll clear itself eventually".
Well, I read enough of this post where its time for me to jump in. From what I gathered here, it seems like there are a few issues, but fortunately, I think I only have one.
My take on what my truck does (4200 miles)
I take off from a light, light pedal (normal driving/accelerating). Gear indicator is on. It shifts from 1st to 2nd. No problem. Shifts into 3rd. Seems to be no problem. As it comes near 2000 rpm's, it acts like it almost shift, but doesn't. RPM's fall to like 1700, but it just doesn't shift. Then, after another second or so, it just shifts into 4th.
The best way to explain it is feels like it shifts, but just doesn't. Feels and even sounds like it. My worry is it almost appears to be slipping. Bad news for automatics. I know that much.
For whatever it's worth, its fine wide open. Everything seems to run fine wide open!!!!!!
Anyways, what's everyone's take on my issue? I see this TSB out there. 10-21-13. Also, every time I shut the truck off, and turn it back on, the gear indicator shuts off. I read something about one of the TSB's that fixes that........
That TSB had some transmission adjustments along with the gear indicator fix. If you don't have that, you should get it applied asap, should help with some of the trans issues you're having.
I fairly certain any of the trucks built after 11/10 will have 10-21-13 already applied as they dropped that fix into the job 2 trucks. Unfortunately we don't have a 6.2 resource that can lookup TSB's for us so I'm not 100% certain this is the case.
Got my truck back early this afternoon. One thing I did notice was that the gear indicator stays on, but you can shut it off. It goes to how you last had it set, on or off. Also the shifts smoothed out, and I had reset my MPG indicator and it's averaged out around 2mpg more.

What's the build date on your truck? Sorry if you mentioned that somewhere else already, couldn't remember.
