I love a good tractor pull and monster truck shows that'll make you deaf and fill the sky with black smoke. But at the tracks where they belong. Not next to my house where I want to relax.

Tom you hit the nail on the head with the "look at me" mentality. I have a farm market up the road from me and it seems every time I'm there someone smashes the go pedal, gas or diesel, as they go by. No one cares or thinks it's cool. Well except my 3 and 6 year old....... But they're impressed by a pile of rocks also.

Lots of folks out there with "LOOK at ME!!!!" trucks that do everything they can for that attention. It's frustrating, I don't want to hear their engine. Just moved to the midwest a few months ago, and it seems to be much more common out here. I hear more obnoxious exhausts on gas trucks though, probably because there are a lot more of them.
And the funny part is when these same guys say they are being singled out and picked on by the cops! LOL

Don't get me wrong, very nice new vehicles, restored classics, and other highly modified vehicles are very nice to see. Even if they're noisy. I love lifted trucks, off road vehicles, classic trucks and cars.

I'm talking about the overly obnoxious unnecessary stuff (cars and trucks) that's driven daily by a certain age group or an adult who, for some reason, hasn't hit puberty yet. Usually they are a pile of rust that just makes a ton of noise.
Instead of wasting all that money on fixing and modding those pieces of junk they should save their money and get something nice. But I remember being that age and I wasted so.....much....money......on dumb garbage for my vehicles.

But it's your life and you are free to do as you wish.

Around here it's the kids in their Chevy's. 12" of lift, 24" wheels, 6" exhaust, and a performance tune that puts out black smoke the moment you touch the go pedal. Lots of chrome and decals and probably the closes to off-roading they do is go over the speed bumps at the mall...

i do belive in cold weather like we have in alaska its wise to idle yoru vehicle to warm up, aluminum pistons do expand faster then the iron bores. if it was air cooled i say go for it, but liquid cooled with alum and iron i say idle.

i hate them guys too, we call them BRO trucks here.

I get this all the time with driving my civic. I also know at least 75% of folks that see me driving my civic think the same thing. It doesn't bother me much, I drive what I want.

Although at least with the ones that mention it to my face I can reply with a short list of some vehicles I do own and don't drive daily. Which normally leads into a conversation of "why drive that if you have those" deal.

Everything you see isn't face value.

And diesels are still the best!

I'm not talking about vehicles used to absorb miles and salty winters. I have an older Escape for those purposes and I drive it more than my truck. Let's my truck sit out the salt and save the body. My escape has rusty fenders and other issues. It's far from a neighborhood issue. I'm talking the guys who dump money into trucks with mismatched panels that are rusted beyond repair but likely have $1,000's in mods and other stuff that just create noise and other dumb issues. Wasted money they'll never get back and should've saved.

I'm willing to bet your civic doesn't have one of those awesome fast and furious mufflers on it either.

It has a chrysler 300 muffler with some sort of ricer tip I had in the pile.

Those vehicles that are rusty and mismatched with lots of money in them are called "rat-rods"
