A diesel would handle tow 14k better with better fuel mileage. If you tow that much weight for months straight you need a diesel not a gas engine in your super duty.
Why does one need a diesel based on that? I haul around a dump trailer on a near daily basis weighing between 10k-14k during the spring/summer. I drive a whopping 5-10 miles to and from most jobsites. Then the truck sits there for about 7 hours before I move an empty dump trailer back home.
I'm sure the diesel would pull better. But is the $8k upgrade really going to help that much for 10-20 miles/day? Will it make me more money than the gas truck I currently own because it can handle better over the 5-10 miles of stop and go traffic? Will it get me to the jobsite so much sooner that we'll be that much more efficient?
No. it won't.
Honestly if I need to upgrade a truck it won't be a pickup. It'll be a true medium duty and amazingly enough Ford is selling those trucks (650/750) with gas motors too. But I'd imagine something I'd get would be diesel based in the truck platform.

yes it would feel better doing it. But overall it is not in the better interest of a business to have one over the gasser. The biggest thing is down time and problems more than initial cost, because you get a lot of that back on resale and fuel mileage. Down time when used for work costs a LOT more than parts and labor when you're talking about a business.
i think you may have read my initial post wrong, I current have more diesels than gas engines. Because of a want, not need. I keep an open mind to options and realize sometimes what I want is not always the most logical choice. But that said My next truck will be a 6.2 for the peace of mind ownership
I have had three 5.4s, four 7.3s and two 6.0's and every single diesel has cost me a LOT more out of pocket from purchase to either sale or current time than the gassers.
I'm just curious, what do you use your trucks for?

I haven't recieved my truck yet but I will be using it to move CAT equipment and material for the company I work for. We are in the concrete business so I'll be hauling a lot of lumber and rebar.
I am currently mulling over gas vs diesel question as I may upgrade in the next year. Right now though my 7.3 tows my TT, golf cart in bed, tools/camping stuff, and family for a total of 11.5K lbs per CAT scale really good. I am leaning toward gas with 4.30. A 6.7 is a possibilty and would be great, have driven a few and was impressed. However I have noticed that a lot 6.7 owners seem to trade every few years. I keep a truck for a while, current one is on year 10 of ownership. The 6.2 owners seem to keep their trucks longer.

That's because us 6.2 owners don't get ulcers from worry when our warranty runs out. I scale quiet a bit heavier than that with my 30' travel trailer, golf cart in bed and family in truck. I have 3.73 gears and average 9.5 mpg towing.
Maybe you guys do some research before posting stupid stuff like this, the owner put diesel in the DEF tank. But continue TRYING to make diesel look bad, its really funny.
I thought this thread had run it's course and died. But I guess as long as there are two types of engines there's going to be people on either side who claim to be right and anyone who doesn't share their view is clueless. It's a free country, buy and drive what you want. I know I did.

Both engines serve a purpose. If you have heavy towing and hauling you know manly stuff you need a diesel. If you need to go to the grocery store or to Home Depot to pick up a couple of 2X4's you know women type stuff a gasser will fit your needs. Lmao I kid kid........kinda.
My 7.3 is so strong that it doesn't drive on the road, it rotates the earth underneath it. Lets see you do that with a gasser.
I've had an obs 7.3 and driven several later 7.3's. Although they were great motors and impressive in their day, they don't pull any better than a 6.2. You may make the earth rotate, I keep it leaning on its axis blowing the doors of stock diesels.
